If they can SOMEHOW get a true ace, a more consistent bullpen, and an infield that isn't full of out of place players who underperform at the plate, MAYBE they can reach the playoffs again next season. But the hope that I had after their amazing 2024 run has all but evaporated.

I remember crying in bed as a 13 year old after Starks missed that three against the Rockets in '94, which is to say that I feel the pain of Spurs fans (please take solace in that it will likely take less than 22 years to get over this). The 2026 Mets are awful on a generational level. The last time they had a "fire the manager/season's already over" April, I was 11. Now I'm almost 45. At least now I have more entertainment options than summer reruns since I'm likely not going to watch this team play this poorly for that long.

Even with their best starter on the mound and any given team's worst, I do not believe the current Mets team can beat any of the other 29 MLB ballclubs. The bullpen and offense is just that bad. They truly are what their record indicates; the worst team in all of baseball.

If it's any consolation, the Mets have like five or six garbage time runs where they cut a 13-2 lead down to 13-4 (so give it a few days to overtake the Phils). Also I feel like even if we can't be mathematically eliminated this early, we'll be too far back to even contemplate contending.

If folks finally gel on the field and start hitting (and Soto comes back at 100 percent soon) we can MAYBE play out the rest of the season at .500, but this team isn't gonna be in sniffing distance of the playoffs without major changes (personnel changes and lineup overhaul).

A third of the position players are in spots they're not supposed to be. Nobody hits well, especially in the clutch. The only place we're not struggling is 3/5 starters but the other 2 are guaranteed losses each time through the rotation. Regardless of who starts, the bullpen can't keep it close.

I always preferred these to the daily calendars, which leaned far too hard into post-season 10 trivia after like two years. If there was a daily calendar solely focused on the first decade, I'd buy it every year (I mean it, as a guy who used to print out Simpsons trivia questions from the library)

Every year in the MLB playoffs my rooting interests go in this order: 1- The Mets (this rarely happens) 2- Whoever opposes the Yankees (this frequently happens) 3- Whoever has the longest playoff drought. So at this point... go anyone except the Dodgers or Phillies!
