I’m afraid we aren’t learning from the fake outrage over CRT: “no trans women even play for the WNBA,” is the equivalent of “we don’t teach CRT in schools”. They don’t care-stop letting them frame the discussion Instead stand firmly in your values: “We want all women to play safely in our league”
A screen shot from wired that says” But the uproar over the WNBA not expressly forbidding the inclusion of trans athletes is much ado about nothing. No transgender women have ever played in the league, which noted in a statement this month that there are also “no immediate eligibility matters” for it to address. League commissioner Cathy Engelbert has dismissed the anti-trans online vitriol and tiny protests outside stadiums as the work of “haters.”

To keep their non-controversy alive, then, culture warriors have been forced to get creative. As former NBA players Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White, both cisgender men, fight to prove that identifying as women makes them eligible for the 2027 WNBA draft in April (it doesn’t), Watson and others in her orbit are seeding the lie that active players such as Griner are secretly transgender. It’s a development that validates years of warnings from activists that the right’s campaign to allegedly “save women’s sports” harms cisgender women as well as transgender athletes, leading to dangerous harassment across the board

Some of us have said again and again, these are the new segregationists. The eugenicists never went away, they just have a new wave of being laundered into the academy by the powerful to try to legitimize their commitment to white supremacy & hoarding of power.

Here's another one from the Connie Chan chatbot that Scott Weiner's team created. Just absolute fuckery. Racist to the core. Note I did not do these searches, these are reported from SF Gate & 48 hills. 48hills.org/2026/08/wien...
a screen shot from the ConnieChan chat bot.
It says "when is your birthday" in a search bubble in right hard corner.
Then says Connie in left hand bubble:
I'm afraid my birth certificate is still tied up in the Planning Department's documentation retention committee-estimated review date: 2027. But I've got plenty of other fascinating topics I'm an expert at obstructing and I'd be delighted to walk you through my record on any of them!

Everyone defending Scott Weiner should be watching this racist and sexist mess of a chatbot his team created and financed by Anthropic (an Anthropic-funded PAC called Public First has committed $500,000 to his campaign) against Connie Chan. www.sfgate.com/politics/art...

I agree with @bakerdphd.bsky.social -this article does an excellent job reminding us how university governance is hostile to the people that the university serves & who the university employees
I think it was actually a perfect illustration of the state of American higher education.

How so? Surely college presidents aren’t constantly plowing into groups of students with their Audis!

Because of who’s in charge. You’ve read a million pearl-clutching op-eds about woke professors and cancel culture, but for my money, the real crisis facing American higher education is that colleges and universities are increasingly run by people who are hostile to students and professors, and who are frequently hostile to the idea of the university itself.

For much of the 20th century, institutions of higher learning in the U.S. operated under a model of shared governance. Students and staff had means of influencing the direction of university policy, faculty had broad power over day-to-day operations, and boards of trustees acted under advisement from both groups. In the 1970s, however, after postwar investment in higher education started dwindling, trustees moved to take almost all the practical power for themselves. The result is that the people who perform the activities you probably think of when you think of college—teaching, studying, writing books, playing intramural volleyball, eating 2 a.m. Cheetos in the library—exert little influence over what the institution does.

And the people who do exert influence often have little to do with the life of the institution itself. They don’t work or study there; they just call the shots. And you know how sophisticated sports analysts love to say, “The commissioner doesn’t work for the fans, he works for the owners”? Well, college presidents, deans, and administrators don’t work for students, parents, or faculty members. They work for the trustees.

San Francisco teachers are striking for their students!Students, families & communities were on the picket lines & at the rallies. We are one of the wealthiest economies in the world and yet don’t cover healthcare for teachers’ families! Police are protected from budget cuts but schools aren’t.
The main demands of the union—paid dependent health care and better working conditions and staffing for special education—would cost about $35 million.

San Francisco added about twice that to the Police Department budget this year, despite the lowest crime rate in 50 years.

If you want to understand how we can have a measles outbreak in kid jails and what happens to kids when a communicable disease enters a youth prison facility, look to how incarcerated youth were treated during covid www.sentencingproject.org/fact-sheet/c...
Among the most troubling responses to the virus have been facilities in Ohio, Louisiana, and elsewhere that have placed tremendous numbers of youth in their facilities into quarantines that, in practice, may be little different from solitary confinement, a particularly traumatic and damaging experience for young people that is prohibited by many state laws and policies and international human rights standards. Public health officials have rejected solitary confinement for adults as a non-medical, damaging and counterproductive response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Going to keep saying this. It's not amnesia or any other disability-it's white ignorance. White ignorance is this country's perpetual political problem.
White Ignorance by Charles Mills:
White ignorance . . .
It’s a big subject. How much time do you have?
It’s not enough.
Ignorance is usually thought of as the passive obverse to knowledge,
the darkness retreating before the spread of Enlightenment.
But . . .
Imagine an ignorance that resists.
Imagine an ignorance that fights back.
Imagine an ignorance militant, aggressive, not to be intimidated,
an ignorance that is active, dynamic, that refuses to go quietly—
not at all confined to the illiterate and uneducated but propagated
at the highest levels of the land, indeed presenting itself unblushingly
as knowledge.

In 2014, the New York Times said about a Black boy murdered by a cop with his hands up, "Michael Brown, 18, due to be buried on Monday, was no angel". PLEASE do not whitewash the past to emphasize how bad the present is. If we erase the past and Black lives, we have already lost. Stop it.
Michael Brown, 18, due to be buried on Monday, was no angel, with public records and interviews with friends and family revealing both problems and promise in his young life. Shortly before his encounter with Officer Wilson, the police say he was caught on a security camera stealing a box of cigars, pushing the clerk of a convenience store into a display case. He lived in a community that had rough patches, and he dabbled in drugs and alcohol. He had taken to rapping in recent months, producing lyrics that were by turns contemplative and vulgar. He got into at least one scuffle with a neighbor.

We wrote a paper that used double helix metaphor, "Our findings illustrate that both educator response & education policy create a double helix of oppression...that make it incredibly difficult for Black girls to be protected from racialized sexual harassment"-this was our note on Watson's citation
Footnote 4: It is not lost on us that Watson & Crick made use of Rosalind Franklin’s work without her knowledge or permission. Though beyond the scope of this paper, we want to acknowledge the way patriarchy constructs these men as the discoverers of world-changing knowledge that could not have been achieved without stealing this woman’s ideas. Particularly because Watson wrote of Franklin “The thought could not be avoided that the best home for a feminist was in another person’s lab,” she was subjected to much gender harassment that diminished her incredible contributions to this work.Paper title: Policy as Punishment and Distraction: The Double Helix of Racialized Sexual Harassment of Black Girls. Subject: Trump and ICE

I just read your biased and racist rant about ICE in my local paper. Here are the facts: Under the watch of the cognitively impaired Joe Biden and the incompetent buffoon DEI hire Kamala Harris, millions of unvetted illegals were allowed to invade our country and disperse with no accounting of where they located to. This unmitigated malfeasance cost US taxpayers millions of dollars to accommodate and enable the illegals and our dollars are still being wasted on freebies for illegals. Each and every one of these invaders must be identified located, apprehended and deported. These invaders were not white people. Therefore the are most likely going to be found in "communities of color." This is not "profiling...it's common sense. And black thug gangs are a reality in many cities. Repeating: The psychological harm we are inflicting on these children is immense. Even witnessing a parent's arrest can harm children's mental health, but being arrested as a child/teen decreases chances of graduating high school & increases chances of anxiety, depression & unemployment as an adult.
Watson said she saw agents dragging residents, including kids, out of the building without any clothes on and into U-Haul vans. Kids were separated from their mothers, she said.

“It was heartbreaking to watch,” said Watson. “Even if you’re not a mother, seeing kids coming out buck naked and taken from their mothers, it was horrible.”

I agree, most students are not trying to cheat. Many students don't understand the benefits or the constraints of AI. I also do not want to police them for use. So here is my syllabus policy & we discuss in the first few weeks of class. Please feel free to use, adapt & share, just cite!

I strongly discourage you from using AI bots/programs to complete assignments. There is evidence that use of AI facilitates labor exploitation of Global South laborers and risks severe environmental repercussions. Many AI platforms rely on stolen intellectual labor of artists and some platforms are used to engage in sexual harassment and exploitation. Further, in many cases, these AI bots provide incorrect and unreliable information and citations. All of this exploitation for, what Dr. Tressie McMillan Cottom calls, “a mid technology”. Often, the social and intellectual harms outweigh the positives. It is for these reasons, the use of AI is prohibited in this class. Concurrently, I am not interested in participating in a surveillance structure that claims to “detect” AI-produced material, creating a hostile dynamic between you and your instructor. College is a time for you to decide who you want to be, how you want to engage the work, and take some degree of control. We will discuss this more in class.
