In addition to that, are gen ed classes at Austin actually asking students to read Hegel?? Good luck with that

On the *same day* the Cornell Seven drugged and raped Jane Doe, Cornell banned four students (including the President of Cornell JVP) from campus for three years for nonviolent, pro-Palestine protests. The same Cornell officials let the rapists off with apology essays.

You are much more sanguine about this than I am. I see "rationalism" as a close cousin to "libertarianism," especially in terms of the sociology of who those ideologies attract. That is not a compliment

drsox.bsky.social @drsox.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
We must, while recognizing our own limits, history, and situation. Claiming to be uniquely "rational" at any moment is hubris and, frankly, stupidity

drsox.bsky.social @drsox.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
I think nearly every intellectual movement thinks it is "rational," and "rationalism" is not inherently more or less rational than any of them
030
drsox.bsky.social @drsox.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
I don't think we need the term "rationalism" at all, it doesn't name anything useful in the real world
190
drsox.bsky.social @drsox.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
It might be superficially attractive, but 1. it's dumb as shit, with no understanding of history, science, or the history of science, and 2. "rationalism" is not actually "rational," it is a thin cover for things that appeal to its adherents

If we are trying to understand why some Dems might take Duckworth's position, I don't think it's a stylistic preference for nonconfrontation, it's because they (often correctly) are responding to the interests of their wealthy funders and constituents who benefit from the status quo.

I agree. That's not what I said. I'm not talking about the choice in front of voters, I'm talking about the candidates, who have discredited themselves. This is a genuinely hard situation, and it is deeply offensive to pretend that it isn't.

You're ranting. Let's take an example: why does DSA say they want to abolish the Senate? You have to understand the arguments to be an informed person.

drsox.bsky.social @drsox.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Right, like I said. Your beliefs are deeply anti intellectual. You don't have to like DSA, but if you want to disagree, you have to grapple with the actual ideas.

3 things about Dem politicians who dabble in transphobia: 1. It's wrong, they're wrong, on a moral basis they're being evil 2. It's stupid, they're stupid, they'll never get any credit from the fascists for it 3. It's proof you're not capable of reading or rising to this, and therefore any, moment

Their claim was a hypothetical implying that anti-vax is not common among immigrants, but for Somalis at least, that is not true. In general as well, unfortunately vaccination rates strongly correlate with race (non-white lower than white).

I mean, you posted like 8 times since my post, but ok. The reality is that vaccination rates are extraordinarily low among Somalis, but the predominant response in the state to anti-vax in that community has been sympathy, as it should be.

Anti-vax has been devastatingly effective targeting Somalis: "In 2006, 92 percent of Somali 2-year-olds were up-to-date on the measles vaccine, according to the Minnesota Department of Health. Today's rate is closer to 24 percent, according to state data."

I thought it was common knowledge! It's a sad story: Somalis were specifically targeted with misinformation from Andrew Wakefield. www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...
