What Have You Done?

While we might have had illusions in the past that we knew each other, if only casually, I know that you could care less about what I might have to say. Today, I write to urge you to resign immediately so that more Black and brown people do not get traumatized or killed. This morning was a prime example of the lack of leadership abilities on your part that is vitally needed during these racially charged times. In the past, I thought of you as someone that would always put people before profits; I and many others were wrong. It appears that in your discomfort to communicate with angry Black people, you have unleashed a city in turmoil and anger. Seeing riot clad State Patrol and MPD brutalizing the most marginalized in our community sickened me to the core and I hold you responsible.
When you were first elected and I complained to you about the F-35's, I will never forget your words. "Brian, now that I am mayor, I have to play things down the middle." It appears to me that you think that ducking and dodging issues around racial and social justice is playing down the middle. That is why I am calling on you to resign.

The city of Madison is clearing the Ruiz memorial site right now with cops. Many unhoused folks are sleeping there right now and at risk for harm. If you are local and can get down there, please do ASAP. Help people clear their stuff out and de-escalate. Document the harm. Whatever you can do.

60 prayer candles, 200 tea lights and 15 lighters purchased and dropped off to the organizers of tonight’s (7/26) 6pm Mother’s Healing Circle vigil at the Ruiz memorial site. Cost was $128 so I will either purchase food or pass the remaining $77 on to people who are already doing food support.

Context continued again: -The independent civilian review board of the police here established after events in 2020 is under threat to be defunded/dismantled -Black people represent less than 8% of Madison’s population yet somehow we keep being the only ones killed by police here
