There is a minor subset of folks IME who go through a really fragile period of identity development (or a mental health crisis) and get super intolerant of minor friction/imperfection from parents. It's a developmental stage that usually passes in time.

Bill Doherty wrote a whole book about how therapists were too individualist and encouraging divorce, then tried to found a "movement" of "marriage-friendly therapists." Individual therapy can undermine couple therapy, but that's not the same thing as "too friendly to divorce."

There's a reason the best internet resource on estrangement is called "The Missing Missing Reasons." Parents like this are absolutely watertight resistant to anything their children have to say, even descriptions of those kids' own experiences and feelings.

Every few years I send out Halloween cards to medical practices and other folks who might refer clients to me. Bulk cards with cute but inoffensive imagery, which used to be easily found on eBay. Now most of it is AI art (and drop-shipped from China w/a huge markup as well).
