A good buddy of mine got their hands on a copy of the Shigeki Toyama artbook that contains a bunch of high-res references of the #PicPac band, and I got inspired to quickly sketch out Maria Socket to get back into the drawing mood! Namco bring back PicPac and make a picpacillion dollars #fanart

Health and armor pickups! We were exploring turning TFC's vague backpack pickups into readable TF2-style pickups. Further ideation was going to be done once armor pickups and types were fully figured out, but these early drafts are still very fun to look at.

A very very VERY early and unfinished concept for Casbah! A massive tower in the background was intended to act as a landmark for RED's flag room.

Doodly concepts for team-based architecture, using the main entrance of the team bases from TFC's Badlands. The idea was for BLU to lean a little more into a brutalism aesthetic, inspired by the original TFC maps and vaguely recalling Fortress Forever's base architecture. RED was to lean closer into TF2's wood-and-metal structures while still retaining the utilitarian vibes.

Early unfinished HUD concept art! The main idea was to take what worked with TF2's HUD and apply it to whatever was needed for Team Fortress Classic's gameplay. The shapes are more uniform than TF2's usual UI style, mirroring the utilitarian architecture of the bases. The map in the background is mctf_2fort by Suo!

Unfinished concept art depicting the Pyro, directly referenced from the TF2 Catch-Up Comic design, with a ton of missing details. Not a whole lot to describe here, but you can see how the designs would've used the TF2 classes' rigs as a basis, taking advantage of their unique proportions to improve class recognition in Retromode.

Rika is sat next to Grusha on the floor. Rika is playing with Grusha's hair, which gets him a little flustered. Rika's thought bubble says "perdy" while Grusha's thought bubble is being devoured by the gluttonous Wooper.

Grusha and Rika being buddies! Rika has her fingers hooked onto Grusha's mouth, forcing him to smile. He is not entirely amused, but she is very amused. There is a thumb-type amongis in the top right, watching over all like a benevolent ruler.

Rika and Rika! Right Rika is leaning forward and has a Pocky in her mouth. Left Rika is hitting a smug expression with her finger to her chin. I realized hours later that Left Rika looked like Pepe the Frog and fell to my knees, screaming to the heavens and cursing the gods.

Rika jumpscare! Rika is coming up behind Grusha and surprising him. He is looking back into Rika's eyes. Rika's chin is nestled in Grusha's clavicle area and her arms are around his waist. Grusha's arms are slightly lifted in surprise.

Grusha, Rika, and a Paldean Wooper are seated and watching a film! Grusha is holding a bowl of popcorn in one hand and a handful of popcorn in the other. Rika is to the right, drinking a sodie pop. They're both leaning into each other. The Wooper sits between them, looking like he has just witnessed every single one of Earth's natural wonders at once.

In the top-left, the Rika is demonstrating her dominance over the Grusha as she puts her weight on top of him. The Grusha attempts to retaliate with his powerful fists of fury, but he is no match for Rika's incredible endurance. In the bottom right, the Rika cares for her Grusha by sucking excess moisture from his face. The process looks uncomfortable, but it is actually a common practice and is natural for the Grusha. Nature is beautiful.
