I can attest Zenodo was easy to start and use (frankly more straightforward than what OSF had become); took me 5min to create account and publish project artifacts. I was unable to crack the code on anonymous link in that 5 min. So skip to Amanda’s 11:30 mark before you click that publish button!

So if they say non-traditional research includes cross-cultural research and null results research, is that an honest and blatant acknowledgment that eurocentric research and (selective) reporting of positive, quantitative research is the norm?

(Apologies for my potato-of-a-phone and its poorish quality of the photographs) We had a lovely “Learn, Connect. Build Community” event, which was a panel and reception centering our @barsstudy.bsky.social. Gratitude to our CAB members, Ada, Roberto, Drew (photographed) for sharing experiences!

BARS challenges the assumption that people who experience marginalization are underrepresented because they are uninterested. Take a lot at what we have found with our participants.

We reached a major milestone completing recruitment and data collection in Seattle. We will have a @barsstudy.bsky.social community panel & reception TOMORROW, 5-7pm, which is another installment of our “Learn. Connect. Build Community” event and @adapt206.bsky.social summer potluck!

Will I ever see the day when meta-analysts no longer have to assess publication bias and write that positive, significant effect sizes are more likely to be published than nonsignificant ones? #OpenScience #RiskOfBias #MetaAnalysis

I usually don’t like cutesy journal titles, but this really did catch my attention and I think it’s one of the more impactful but descriptive titles that I have seen in a while:

I personally mentored a record number of undergrad, postbac, masters, and doctoral trainees in a given year. It was challenging and stressful at times, we did a lot of good work as well!

Sometimes people take misconceptions and piecemeal understanding into something complex and package into an agenda they push, decontextualizing such a thing and judge it for being decontextualized.

Everyone should hear this: If there is a microphone in a conference room, USE IT. I used to be one who prides on projecting voices, and I’m short so hate being stuck behind a podium. 1/2

This is a record number of students I got to mentor in one year working on research presentations!! They had been busy learning the ropes for the past 6 months—all on top of their coursework, regular lab responsibilities, and other extracurriculars!

Credible research relies on transparency, independent verification (reviewers!) + inclusivity. Yet multicultural scholars may face barriers and see facilitators to use open science differently, don’t always get review training and experiences. Join us in understanding and changing these!

My grad school advisor influenced my writing a lot. That includes using em dashes. Generative AI has shamed me for using em dashes—an unfortunate reality in which we live.

I agree with this sentiment on some levels, but we also have written similar conclusion and reviewers noted “please tone that down, much more research is needed.” 🤷‍♀️

Busy week @adapt206.bsky.social! 3 abstracts from @barsstudy.bsky.social accepted for @cpddorg.bsky.social, led by (postbac) trainees who’d been in the lab for 1+yr. 13 seniors/juniors new to the lab submitted 3 abstracts for UW’s Undergrad Research Symposium. That’s what I call a training pipeline!

Today hits particularly hard. Gotta find ways to keep going ... Like, finding fulfillment in supporting (former) students’ pursuits for graduate training because they will carry on the mission despite challenges… or keep the science going with any resources left because it’s the right thing to do.

Fun to listen to @edyong209.bsky.social talk about discovering joy, cultivating a sense of wonder and stillness, building community, and instilling hope despite challenges—thru birding. What do others do for these things? Mine had been kickboxing, rockclimbing, and recently pottery.

We wanted to share some insights from what we’ve learned so far through our participants’ experiences. These experiences help us recognize important patterns and identify resources that support well-being. Representation in research matters and this is just the beginning of what we’re uncovering.

We use evidence to discuss public health issues. When it comes to data-informed recommendations, credentials and expertise matter. Completing education and appropriate practical training bolsters our expertise as scientists and health professionals. Influencer =/= scientific communication.

We made an infographic summarizing some emerging patterns using SeaTac geospatial data and exploring participants’ lived experiences in our neighborhoods. Our project coordinator hates the photo bc my phone is old (so I cropped her), but this is us presenting these data at a conference this summer.
