Just a short stay in Dublin (June, 2026). An absolute delight to finally meet @joannakacprzyk.bsky.social in person and thanks for the tour of plant growth/cell culture facilities at UCD. Research is a small world (plants especially) -- You never know who you'll meet via social media. ☘️🌾☕️🍺

We've had a somewhat-retrospective tone lately. So... here's an older paper from the archives (1990). #Nature🌱🌾🔬🌏🚀 "For the first time, rapid changes in [Ca2+] cyt and pH cyt are correlated directly with increases in cell elongation stimulated by light and gravity." nature.com/articles/345528a0

The title, authors and abstract of Gehring et al., 1990 (Nature).

Phototropism and geotropism in maize coleoptiles are spatially correlated with increases in cytosolic free calcium.
