You both have points and it's unfair to blame someone who's trying for harm reduction and call them transphobic. It's a terrible choice to face, blame the ones making it the choice.

What it did was get many to realize "religious liberty" was a smokescreen/get out of jail free card for bigots getting to bully others. Anyone who actually cares about real religious freedom should be outspoken against that use. I know I'm preaching to the choir here!

Trying to determine when staying was doing more to lend legitimacy than generating change, or when leaving could do more for positive change than staying, sounds like a really difficult thing to do. I'm sorry you were put in that position and I respect your decision.

This might not be the answer, but many manufacturers of those drugs try not to sell for lethal injections in humans (so the quality of the drugs may not be good). Also, few if any qualified medical professionals would agree to perform the procedure.

It seems the author is jumping ship to try to build outside regulatory capacity, almost like the company is sending off it's own people to be the regulators who could then be in a position to absolve them of responsibility. I'd be inclined to heed their call for regulation but keep them away from it

I agree! If you haven't read "Unsafe at any speed" by Ralph Nader, you might like it. It's about the auto industry before the government started heavily regulating it, and how no industry will ever "self regulate" unless they are forced to, even if the ability to do so is right there.

Only if a follow-up shows more is detached. It's not exactly uncommon, but it's very likely you'll not need any. I know it's the hardest advice to take (and easiest to give), but try to relax, you will be fine. It's scary, but the medicine has come a very long way!

Just take it easy, follow your doctor's instructions (like you were going to already), and you'll be fine. This actually happens pretty frequently, and the treatment is very effective! It's definitely freaky, but you've got this!

which span the thickness of the retina, to proliferate and form a "spot weld" to glue your retina to the underlying epithelium.

I haven't had that treatment, but my PhD is based in retinal development and biology. Most likely, the doctors will be causing small and focal injuries to your retina to cause one type of cell, Muller Glia

Absolutely, I'm jealous here in MA! I have been trying to explain how RCV works to everyone I can. Unfortunately, it can be hard to get some people to apply themselves to understanding something that can't be explained in a single short sentence, so that's where much of the work will need to be.

I don't think allowing the GOP to control the framing of the issue is a smart move. And she's not taking anything away from the GOP, if someone is really committed to being transphobic, I doubt they're going to be convinced to vote Democrat regardless.

Really it's just that the definition of a "drug" is pretty meaningless in this context, and many substance and behaviors can be addictive. However, remember many consume alcohol (and marijuana, for that matter) who are not, in fact, addicted.

That's conveniently ignoring the selfishness of your stance. What about all those suffering under the current admin? All the deaths due to USAID cuts, or the recent ending of TPS for Haitian immigrants, just to name two at random? But sorry you didn't feel personally courted enough...

Might I suggest not trying to tell someone in this situation that what they were feeling was wrong? I get you like to feel superior, but you're anything but.

Your inability to understand criminal responsibility and how it can be impacted by serious mental illness and psychosis is your problem.

No, she's admitted it and no one is seriously contesting that. What's at issue is her criminal responsibility. Stop muddying the waters with conspiracy theories.

Not criminally responsible. No one serious questions that she did it and her defense was not arguing she did not.

Brian @drosera91.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
First, no, doing something evil is not itself proof of mental illness. But that's not what the jury was asked to decide. No one denies she had serious mental illness. The bar for NGRI goes far beyond having a mental illness.

It's funny you put "no power" in quotes like that's what I said. They don't have the power to "pick him up", period.

Brian @drosera91.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
You clearly have no idea what the bar is for NGRI (and no, just "psychosis" is not it), so maybe sit this one out.
110
Brian @drosera91.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
No, she will likely be institutionalized for a very long time, if not the rest of her life. That said, if, due to mental illness, she was not criminally responsible then she was not criminally responsible. Revenge isn't why we prosecute (or shouldn't be).
1201
Brian @drosera91.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
If the juror believes there is reasonable doubt but still won't vote to acquit, they are not following the law. If they just disagreed and thought the prosecution met that bar while the other jurors didn't, that's a different story.
060
Brian @drosera91.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
I wouldn't be so sure about that. Three children were killed, they're under enormous pressure to prosecute. And if your second argument was true nothing would ever be retried, but we had another recent high profile case in MA that would beg to differ...
130
Brian @drosera91.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
I suspect the judge really really wants to not appear in any way to be tampering with the jury.
030
Brian @drosera91.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
It seems they are saying the juror acknowledges reasonable doubt (thus legally must acquit) but refuses to vote to acquit.

Brian @drosera91.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
You're missing quite a bit. If you're interested, read up on the subject because "person had a mental illness when they committed the crime" is absolutely not the bar.
230
Brian @drosera91.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
Yeah, so many women in similar situations can never leave a psychiatric institution because they're so suicidal. And you're right, so much focus on "vengeance" and not enough on how we prevent this from happening in the future.
