Some moments are very special. Here’s one of them: Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall reacts to a wonderful voice note from our listener & good friend @thefuture4everyone.bsky.social on the WHO CORNER TO CORNER podcast 👇

Happy birthday to your brother! Hope you enjoy the interview - I think you’ll find a nice ‘surprise’ in there! We kept it spoiler free, against all odds really - so your road trip accompaniment is safe* * probably 😝

Earlier this week we had a great chat with Chris Chibnall. Mostly talking about his new novel but we did manage to sneak in some Doctor Who stuff. Here’s a little snippet. Listen out for the full podcast this Sunday from 6pm 👇

People over on the other platform kicking off that Nolan is ‘disrespecting Homer’s original’ when - They’ve never read it Can’t read anyway Don’t get the fact that over 90 translations in 600+yrs have corrupted what was in the first place a collection of oral myths and histories - is actually epic

Reading my book on the train, I turned the page just as a woman sat down opposite and opened her book. In that moment I saw proof that the universe really is a simulation… 🤓

🎧 Now listening to… Probably Murray Gold’s most awesome piece of music for Doctor Who

Been letting this one lie for a few weeks but now catching up with ‘Maul: Shadow Lord’. It’s ok, but it hasn’t really grabbed hold of me yet. However, I’ll see it through.

Just finished watching Supergirl and I don’t give a flying fuck what the bigots or the idiots, or the killjoys and gatekeepers say, it was a lotta fun and I enjoyed it!

///// BLADE RUNNER \\\\\ was originally released #OTD, 44 years ago, the 25th of June 1982, and it remains very strange to remember it was actually set in 2019. A true landmark in the history of film production, that just keeps getting better on repeat viewing. #bladerunner #scifi #ridleyscott

Just finished reading… ‘The Zygon Invasion’. One of my favourite 12th Doctor stories, an absolute banger from Peter Harness. Given how weighty, dramatic and morally complex the TV eps were, the novelisation is surprisingly lighthearted. Beautifully written. A delight!

I remember when Buffy first started, how great it was that we had an English guy in the team, not only that but a guy with presence, humour, and bravery when it mattered. Even when he played bad guys, Anthony Head was always charismatic, magnetic, iconic. RIP 😥 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I hope they do this. I’ve watched Acolyte a couple of times and it’s pretty good. So what if it doesn’t quite match up the ‘lore’? It introduced a grey area into the Jedi vs Sith conflict I’d be interested to see play out. I enjoyed it and would happily watch more.

Planet of Fire still disappoints me greatly. All the ingredients are there for an epic adventure, but for some reason they don’t come together in a way that I can enjoy. It just feels so flat and uninteresting to me. I remember hoping against hope that the next story would be better…

42 @droho.bsky.social · 29/05/2026

Turlough gets his hero moment, saving the people of Sarn by shouting at them loudly. His exit is nicely handled and it’s clear he and the Doctor have a reciprocal affection. It’s a shame we never got more stories featuring Turlough as the Doctor’s sole companion. Hooray for Big Finish!

42 @droho.bsky.social · 29/05/2026

I also love that Peter Grimwade writes a diminished Master driven to desperation. But Ainley delivers his lines the same as always. However, his ‘demise’ clearly affects the Doctor, who doesn’t seem to have been able to mend his ways after all, especially as he’s only just blasted Kamelion.

100

42 @droho.bsky.social · 29/05/2026

However, there’s some decent nightmare fuel to be had when he reverts to ‘Howard’.

100

42 @droho.bsky.social · 29/05/2026

I remember not being impressed with the Master’s return back in the day, and even less for the reintroduction of Kamelion…

100

42 @droho.bsky.social · 29/05/2026

The Lanzarote location, when in long shot at least, lends a sense of grandeur to the story and Peter Wyngarde plays his part of old priest with empathy and surprising subtlety. Unfortunately the other Sarns are struggling to do anything convincing, even those who have lines.

100

42 @droho.bsky.social · 29/05/2026

Peri’s intro is very memorable. When it was first broadcast I remember feeling odd stirrings that probably shouldn’t have been stirring at such a young age… 😳

100

42 @droho.bsky.social · 29/05/2026

The Doctor and Turlough finally get a costume change and there’s a holiday spirit to the adventure. There’s a mystery to be solved with the strange relic pulled from the sea and it’s nice to see Turlough doing more in the story.

42 @droho.bsky.social · 29/05/2026

I’ve never been a fan of Planet of Fire and my recent rewatch hasn’t changed my opinion. There’s plenty going on in the story, and it moves along with pace, but even in 1984 I found it dull, as though it was a remnant of something archaic with flat, cliched dialogue, and a VERY static camera.

Arrived yesterday though I didn’t have time to open it - Tis a thing of great beauty. Also realised I’m a total sucker for the 8th Doctor TV movie cos I’ve bought pretty much every variant of it since day-minus-one. Still… I love it!

Sad to hear that the wonderful Michael Keating has died, age 79. He was a talented & varied actor appearing in many roles on the stage and tv, including Doctor Who and Eastenders. But for me he will always be known as Vila from Blake’s 7, the thief who could never quite hide his caring soul. RIP 😥

Catching up with the S21 Collection for my daily Doctor Who and it’s the turn of Resurrection of the Daleks, which by reminding the audience that Daleks are nasty, shows that humans are worse. In the end, it’s what they expose in the Doctor that forces Tegan to leave. “It seems I must mend my ways”.

Just catching up with Starfleet Academy and starting to get into it. I’m loving Robert Picardo’s return to Trek, coming round to Holly Hunter’s character and feel like I’m getting to know the regs. And now I learn it’s been effing cancelled after 2 series! Imagine if they’d done that to TNG!! 🤬

The colours of Frontios! There are few Doctor Who stories lit so gloriously and sumptuously as this one, back in the day it was very rare! And wonderfully the new FX only slightly enhance what was already there.
