The gif below shows the exceedance of temperature records in Europe over the past week, especially in France and the UK. As if that's not enough, at 10pm, RAF Valley in Anglesey is still equal the record monthly temp at the site before this year (1976). #UKHeatwave (data/GIF from coolwx.com)

Some of nature's most powerful stories are told through the weather, shaping the world around us in ways both dramatic and subtle. Now it's your turn to tell that story. Entries are open now until 20 August 2026, images taken within the last 5 years are eligible for submission. zealous.co/rmets

We're almost running out of ways to say that the weather we're currently having is unprecedented. But this plot shows just how far off the normal distribution things are today in Yeovilton - taken from istheukhotrightnow.com #Heatwave
A frequency distribution plot of temperatures for this time of day, at this time of year at Yeovilton, UK over the observable past. Today's temperature is represented as being beyond the far upper right tail.

The Isle of Portland is currently 14.9C above it's expected 09:00UTC temperature for this time of year. This plot shows how much of an outlier that is compared to the last 50 years of data - nearly 6C higher. (Thanks as always to istheukhotrightnow.com) #UKHeatwave #RedHeatWarning #ClimateChange
A scatter plot of all 09:00utc temperatures for 17th June - 30th June at the Isle of Portland for the last 50 years. Today's temperature is in bold and an exceptional outlier, over 5C higher than anything that has gone before.

When reality surpasses fiction! Top: fictional forecast for August 2050, broadcast by French TV in 2014 to warn about the consequences of global warming. Bottom: Real French forecast for yesterday, June 22, 2026.

The "it's hot in the UK" reminder of the brilliant website, istheukhotrightnow.com, which shows how warm/cold it is compared to the average temperatures for this time of day/year. Current leader is Bodmin Moor, which is 12.5C hotter than average! #UKHeatwave

Causation or correlation? 7th July 2022 - UK Prime Minister resigns 7th July 2022 - Met Office issues a heat warning and UK hits 40C a few days later. 22nd June 2026 - UK Prime Minister Resigns 22nd June 2026 - Met Office issues a red alert heat warning. Does No10 have terrible air conditioning?

Today is now the hottest day in May on record with Heathrow and Kew Gardens provisionally reaching 35°C Until yesterday the highest temperature in May was 32.8 °C, but we've now exceeded that record on consecutive days by a full two degrees Celsius 🌡️

It appears the May overnight record temperature, broken on Sunday night, was smashed last night by nearly 2C. Temperatures are already higher above climatology this morning than yesterday across much of the UK - a comparison of where we were at 6am UTC (taken from istheukhotrightnow.com).

For those in the UK wanting to watch temperature anomalies in real time, then istheukhotrightnow.com plots observations anomalies and allows you to look at the past too. So yes - it's roasting today!

For those watching the temperatures today in the UK, a quick bit of context. Whilst 33-34C isn't the 40C we saw in 2022, this is May, and the temperature will likely be 15-20C above the average max temp for this time of year, across much of NW Europe. The 2022 heatwave had a similar sized anomaly.

Any day in which there is a new @gamechangershow.bsky.social to watch is a good day (yes, I'm 3 days late, but it's been a busy week). It may be because it's one of the few things more chaotic than reality at the moment, and for some reason, that's comforting.

Am I the only one that cannot find the Google calendar app on their phone at the start of every month because my brain has spent the last 18-21 days being used to the logo having two numbers, and when it changes to one it becomes completely invisible to me?
