Just published in @sjtrem.bsky.social - a short re-analysis of recent work on the efficacy of physician-staffed pre-hospital critical care. Improved precision by pooling survival + mortality outcomes, and some reassurance against publication bias.

📊 New Data Reinforces Collaboration in Pre-Hospital Care! @ryanmchenry.bsky.social with ScotStar’s EMRS re-analyzed data from our study (doi.org/10.1186/s130...), finding survival was 41% higher for pts Tx by MD-led interprofessional teams vs. paramedics alone — with min risk of publication bias.

JC: Do physician led prehospital teams improve outcomes?
This article explores the impact of physician-led interprofessional pre-hospital teams on survival and mortality outcomes for critically ill and injured patients. Drawing on a systematic review and meta-analysis, it examines the evidence, evaluates key benefits, and critically appraises the limitations. The discussion highlights the potential of this model to enhance pre-hospital emergency care while addressing challenges in implementation across diverse healthcare systems. Essential reading for professionals in emergency and pre-hospital medicine.

The ARREST trial of cardiac arrest centers (CAC) for the management of OHCA patients. This finding that the best outcome was seen in patients who went to tertiary care hospitals EDs with a CAC available was interesting but what about brining tertiary critical care to the patient? #LCAS2024 #LTC2024

This certainly leads one to pause for reflection. Male anaesthetists report significantly higher confidence for managing peri-operative cardiac arrests than their female colleagues, HOWEVER…their clinical outcomes were actually the same. #LCAS2024 #LTC2024
