Hey everyone! If you haven't watched this video ever or haven't seen it in a while, it's a good use of 3 minutes!! It's satire but the behaviors it describes remain rampant especially when those responsible aren't held accountable. youtu.be/MoxVdw6T0LA?...

This afternoon I went to an awards ceremony because I'd gotten an award. When I got there, I asked the person running the event if there were interpreters. We go back and forth a bit and ultimately she says they don't have one. 1/

I got a parking ticket yesterday which was just the icing on the cake. I was mad about my $55 mistake. But I went to pay it, grumble grumble, and I saw it said "no faculty/staff permit". Obviously I have that type of permit. So I was like WTH. Then I saw it! The license plate number was wrong! 1/

My phone has decided that I want Outlook in Hebrew. I very much don't but every time I change it to English, it changes back. Guess I'll have to get used to it!
Screenshot of Outlook inbox with some details scrubbed out in blue. The interface is in Hebrew rather than English

Letter to the president of Temple University
President Fry,

As faculty, we are much more concerned about human rights abuses and protections for our LGBTQ and undocumented students than interruptions to our research. We have seen a lot more concern from Temple admin about grant interruptions than protecting the welfare of our students and staff.

We are looking to you and other admin leaders for guidance about how we can best support people within the bounds of the law. Since the election we have not received any such guidance. For many of us, silence from our deans, chairs, and president is turning out to be a grave disappointment. As a faculty member in public health, a highly funded NIH researcher, and parent of a trans child, I am frightened about recent events and hope that your administration will propose concrete contingency plans we can all get behind.

@gallaudetu.bsky.social I only found out I was supposed to order regalia because I just happen to be an adjunct this semester. So I ordered it. But it can only be shipped to the bookstore to be picked up at grad fest in March. 1/2

I dropped out of high school (and got a GED). That's not something I've shared publicly before (I don't think). But why not? People have different academic journeys. This is part of mine. Anyway, I never finished my US history class my junior year and this has been the bane of my existence 1/

I have faced fascism before, in this very country. I was one of 120,000 Japanese Americans summarily rounded up and expelled from our homes at gunpoint, all for the crime of looking like the people who bombed Pearl Harbor. I spent my childhood behind barbed wire. My parents lost everything. 1/

On the one hand, I'm sick on my birthday 😳 (and I have clear memories of often being sick on my birthday). On the other hand, with the exception of having COVID last summer, I haven't been sick since Dec 2019. Guess I'm due. Awesome timing tho.

This week is back to school for my university but I'm on sabbatical for the first time and it's my first time not teaching since Summer 2012!!! Also, because I'm maybe a bit of a masochist, I'm back to school for a second MA in DHH early intervention!
Dark red background with collections of light lilac and mustard dots surrounding and overlapping a picture of me wearing a purple button-up shirt and holding a sign that says “It’s my first day of Sac State sabbatical” in dark green writing. Underneath that it says “2023-2024” and above that, it has the signs from the @ASLSignbank for “my,” “first,” and “day.” There’s a bullhorn in the bottom-right corner angled up toward the photo.Dark red background with collections of light lilac and mustard dots surrounding a picture of me wearing a purple button-up shirt and holding a sign that says “It’s my first day of Gallaudet University ITF MA” in blue writing. Eric Adams and the NYPD have illegally brought back stop and frisk, ruled unconstitutional 10 years ago. t.co/2uQuvhielV

The NYPD has stopped tens of thousands of people under Mayor Adams. Just 5% were white.
Almost all police stops – 92% – were because someone “fit a relevant description” or for a reason they labeled as “other.”
