It's no longer a newsflash that JOIDES Resolution is no longer exploring the deep sea. Scientists from EXP 390/393 were meeting when the JR headed out on its final expedition, and we wrote thank-you notes to the ship, crew, and techs that made the science happen - which were then turned into a quilt

I've been a fan of the mission of the Wyland Whaling Walls and have seen many of them from Alaska to Maine. Unfortunately, too many of them are getting lost. Philly's mural (No. 42) was destroyed during building renovations in 2017. Dallas is the latest to get painted over. 🌊

Last week was UN Global Media & Information Literacy Week, with this year's theme of "Minds Over AI". In addition to having students do an AI exercise with hurricane data, I showed them this video and told them AI is the marshmallow - do the work and there is a reward (don't jump at the marshmallow)

The recent postings around the Seattle Mariners fans causing an "earthquake" reminds me of what we went through in Philly in 2022 - the claim that my campus seismometer (20 miles away from Citizens Bank Park) recorded a home run was, and still is, an excellent lesson in information literacy. ⚒️ ⚾
