Over many years, and a pandemic, we have worked with an international team of researchers to answer the question through genomics. We believe the origin is recent (in the last few decades, in line with previous research) and spatially from Western Europe

A long time ago in this same galaxy, we asked ourselves "where does azole antifungal resistance in fungi come from?" So we set about sampling Aspergillus fumigatus to build a collection of 1000+ samples spanning a century from 34 countries.

Today I had the great honour of narrating the Atlas of Clinical Fungi. I got through 500+ species, and I’m really excited for this to be released soon! It was great to brush up on my Latin, although I’d like to have words with how some of you taxonomists name species 😆 I learnt a lot!
