Hardly a misstep from Phoenix to Palm Springs and just as you start to have confident, #TeslaFSD takes a turn, that it’s made a thousand times, too wide. There was no reason for it and the next time, it did it perfectly. It works until it doesn’t and you’ll never know when.

Just another distracted driver cruising along at 80+ mph along I-10 west of Phoenix and #TeslaFSD moves out of the way to let them by.

As #TeslaFSD starts to move on the green light, it definitely hears something. It’s not until you can see it in the left repeater that it stops and waits for the emergency vehicle to safely pass.

Here is a vehicle, not exactly in the roadway, but close enough and still moving. If you watch the front wheels, it’s unclear what this guy is going to do. #TeslaFSD is cautious, moving out of the way to give them room, but not overlay so that it stops. And it does appear to have called it right.

While it has worked in the past, I rarely try this because it’s too inconsistent. Is the software getting better? Was this just lucky? Was there something about this garage that was different? This is one of the times #TeslaFSD successfully navigated out of a parking garage and into the street.

It’s hard to tell in the video, but #TeslaFSD does slow to a crawl for this dip in the road, very similar to how it handles speed bumps now. Anybody know if it’s able to: 1) read the road sign, or 2) see the road elevation change or 3) just got lucky with the different road surfaces?

We are seeing these new Waymo, six generation vehicles all over the Valley. This is Tempe, Arizona and it’s the farthest from downtown I’ve seen so far.

After politely waiting for that couple to cross the street, Tesla’s FSD does some hard braking for a guy coming out of a parking garage (you can see a slight bounce). I’m not sure I would have stopped but only because I didn’t see how fast he was coming down the ramp until he was already there.

It’s nice to see some of the recently added features to #TeslaFSD continue to work with extraordinary consistency. One of them includes approaching emergency vehicles with their sirens on. And it regularly starts to react before I can tell which directions the sirens are coming from.

I thought this was a nice touch. The oncoming truck is so close to the double yellow line, #TeslaFSD delayed merging into the left turn lane until after it passed the truck. Not a big deal but it does show some built-in intelligence.

A lot of my frustration with #TeslaFSD is that it doesn’t drive the way I would. This pedestrian crossing the intersection is clearly on the other side of the double yellow line, so there was plenty of time to make the turn. Once we have true FSD, I won’t care. Until then, overly cautious is good.

Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
Admittedly, #TeslaFSD is getting more impressive. And I find myself trusting it more, which is not necessarily a good thing. I didn’t see the pedestrian standing there waiting so when the car slowed down, I wasn’t sure what it was doing. Now I try not to panic and wait to see what the car will do.

I thought #TeslaFSD did a nice job avoiding this bus. Typically, it does a relatively tight turn at an intersection but because this bus was pulling out of the bus lane at the same time I rounded the corner, it made a split second decision to widen the turn to go around the bus.

Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
After abruptly switching lanes, I assume because of those emergency vehicles on the left, #TeslaFSD hesitated at the next intersection. Given my FSD PTSD, I didn’t know what was happening, so I accelerated through the intersection only to see, and then hear, the emergency vehicle.

It’s hard to tell in the video, but that is definitely a Tesla #Cybercab. It’s the first time I’ve seen one in the wild, actually first time I’ve seen one. I saw it on the same day I saw a #Zoox mapping vehicle in downtown Phoenix.

Caught a #Zoox mapping vehicle in our neighborhood today. I guess they are coming to downtown Phoenix, along with everyone else.

Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Driving in a downtown area is a challenge. There are multiple pedestrians milling about, and sometimes it’s unclear what they will do next. Also, tons of vehicles all over the place, some parked in travel lanes. In these cases, #TeslaFSD does a meaningful job navigating through all of this.
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
This road construction was really disruptive as navigation says to make a left here (not sure why it went this way in the first place). Also, I love how #TeslaFSD creeps forward as soon as that guy blocking the intersection starts to move and then, as if he’s not moving fast enough, goes around him.
010
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Sometimes it’s the little things. Here is a relatively small and tight traffic circle which #TeslaFSD handles very well. It’s hard to even see it’s a circle as I approach but I am sure it’s part of the navigational inputs which helps it to understand what to do.

Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
It’s not enough to just give them room, as #TeslaFSD merges over two lanes to go around them. I’m not sure why there is such a precaution … maybe just because there was nobody in the other lanes. But it’s a lot, as it has to then merge back over those two lanes to make the right turn up ahead.

While not a totally uncommon thing, I’ve not seen blowing sand crossing the road like that in a long time and was curious what #TeslaFSD would do. However, it plowed right through even though visibility past the cloud was pretty low. Not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
As I approached the turn in the center lane, I wasn’t entirely confident what #TeslaFSD would do given that oncoming truck. But I guess this is an example of training data. Also amazing to me, was it must have seen there wasn’t any traffic behind the truck as it hardly hesitated in the turn.

Pulling out of the space, #TeslaFSD does slow trying to game out what the person and shopping cart are going to do. But then it takes the back route out of Costco which is full of all sorts of hazards, like the stuff sticking out of the box. It does manage to take them into consideration…this time.
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
In tight quarters like this, #TeslaFSD does take chances I never would so I’m super vigilant here. You can see they were starting to turn the wheel back towards the street. I can't decide if it gets it right based on data, it could tell they stopped moving or has just been lucky so far.
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Creeping by an accident, the truck to the right is moving over in the lane to give the scene some room. Meanwhile, #TeslaFSD is trying to merge left to both avoid the truck and get into a faster lane. All happening at once which shows, if you trust it, the power of seeing in all directions at once.

Because you see so many idiots stopping on rail tracks, I got a little nervous when #TeslaFSD did it here. Partially, because I wasn’t immediately sure why it was hesitating. But as you can see, there is a pedestrian crossing the street, although it did manage to still cut it a little close.
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
So many inconsistencies with #TeslaFSD. Here it tries, too early, to enter the turn lane only to find out another driver did it even earlier. To it’s credit, it sees what’s happening two car lengths back, cancels the merge and waits until the line breaks when it’s legally appropriate.
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
I don’t understand how it does this correctly a million times, and then one day it doesn’t. Here there is nobody to my left, but #TeslaFSD waits until the last minute to merge into the turning lane for this light on Central. While not dangerous, it does highlight inconsistency, which is.
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
What do you think about this? Coming out of this parking garage, the exit is clearly on the left. Even the navigation shows going to the left in this roundabout. However, #TeslaFSD doesn’t recognize this as a building entrance and treats it like a normal traffic circle going the long way around.
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
I think the reason #TeslaFSD never likes going downtown is because there are too many edge cases. Here it stutters slightly making the right turn because of the person standing on the corner. And is definitely more polite than I am, waiting for the pedestrian to cross in the middle of the roadway.
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
I thought #TeslaFSD made a bit of an overreaction to the work vehicle parked in the cut out. They were not in the lane and while there were workers about, it’s good that it’s cautious. However, it did move me into the lane to the left, not a lot, but enough for that driver to move over as well.
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
I find it interesting how #TeslaFSD has to carefully creep forward to see around that fencing on the corner (a bumper camera here wouldn’t make any difference). It also waits to confirm the intentions of that vehicle turning left, which was coming from the right most lane to make that turn.
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
Another example of #TeslaFSD really understanding and “seeing” the road ahead. This road construction, of which is one in a thousand in Phoenix, is really messy. That’s complicated by the fact that this area has a lot of twists and turns normally. It does an amazing job navigating through it all.
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
To be clear, #TeslaFSD did an amazing job finding a space. But I feel that it could have been smarter. Instead of a spot at the end, exposing only one side of the car to a potentially inconsiderate passenger, it picks a space with two driver doors, substantially increasing the odds of a door ding.
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
There needs to be a balance between following the letter of the law and driving smart. And #TeslaFSD is definitely following the law here. At the HAWK (High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk), it comes to a complete stop at the flashing red, which is required by law. Even if others don’t.
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
I still find it amazing some of the things #TeslaFSD can do. In this instance, it sees the vehicle way up ahead and through the construction pylons and decides to wait until it crosses the intersection. My assumption is it knows something is there but can’t be sure what it was until it got closer.
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
I don’t see where the driver in the white vehicle was exceptionally aggressive so when #TeslaFSD stopped short of the vehicle in front, I assumed it was just being nice, leaving enough room for them to pull out of the gas station.
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 28/08/2026
This poor guy is trying to cross the street as quickly as he can but the car in front is just throwing him all sorts of shade. I disengaged #TeslaFSD because I didn’t know what was going to happen here.
010
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
Generally, if there are pedestrians waiting at the crosswalk and they look like they want to cross, #TeslaFSD will typically stop and let them cross. Here they do not move and even though they have the right of way in the crosswalk, they don’t seem to find an opening, so the car moves on.
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
This construction worker was way over the line on a really busy road and #TeslaFSD does a nice job giving them the space they need, although it was easy since there’s nobody in the next lane. Even in the close up, you can see the guy waving away the other drivers who are not giving him enough space.

Coming up to this crazy neighborhood intersection, #TeslaFSD not only navigates it well, but picks out the bicyclist coming up in the bicycle lane to the left. It’s nice to see in all directions at once.
001
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 17/08/2026
No where do you see the bicyclist waiting patiently at the intersection yet #TeslaFSD does seem to know they are there and waits until they start to move. Maybe from farther back the bicyclist was there and it remembered. Not really sure but this does add to confidence in the system

Even with the confusing (for a camera system) lane lines and other resurfacing work, #TeslaFSD does a good job accounting for the debris in the road and staying within the designated lane. It seems to be getting better at identifying minor versus major objects to be avoided.

There is a lot going on here. There is a pedestrian in the crosswalk, just as there is a car approaching and wanting to turn. Then the light turns yellow. But #TeslaFSD accounts for the oncoming traffic, pedestrian and calculates the turn after the other vehicle before the light turns red.
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
All of a sudden, seemingly, #TeslaFSD is proactive in getting out of other driver’s way. As it makes the turn, it takes the initiative and backs up to give the truck more room and it does it before the truck even gets close. It didn’t need to as there was plenty of room, but it was cool to see.
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
I think this is the first time I’ve seen this. Since there wasn’t a car behind me, #TeslaFSD backs up when the car in front tries to get out of the crosswalk. I do wonder what it would have done if there was a car there … honk the horn?
000
Driven By EVs @drivenbyevs.bsky.social · 04/08/2026
Coming out of this left turn is another example of #TeslaFSD getting into the wrong lane. It then forces that poor Honda to move over to the far right lane, only to move over into the left lane anyway.
