Oh good. I'm not alone. Apparently Alyssa wishes to join Aemond in burning things. Daemon did not appear happy about that.

@queenwhoneverwas.bsky.social @autemregina.bsky.social He hopes that she will find him honorable and loyal to say the very least. He watches for her. He is already taken by her beauty and hopes that this meeting is everything he has hoped for since the feast and betrothal were arranged.

@autemregina.bsky.social *Corlys watches as Jaehaerys nods at his words. He bows to show the King respect and Jaehaerys calls for Rhaenys to come forward. Corlys waits with bated breath as he waits for her step forth, eager to formally meet her.

Alyssa soon tells him that she believes him since he had known Rhaenys longer and therefore knew her better. After that, things improve between them and their bond grows stronger. They become content in their relationship.

Lord Corlys Velaryon @driftmarklord.bsky.social · 27/10/2024

Later, once they have been wed, Corlys listens as she confides in him that she feels like she is betraying Rhaenys by replacing her. He can understand why she'd feel this way and reassures her that Rhaenys wouldn't feel betrayed. In fact, she'd understand. It takes time to convince Alyssa of this.

100

Lord Corlys Velaryon @driftmarklord.bsky.social · 27/10/2024

Alyssa finally stops fighting and agrees. She does have one condition for doing so. She tells them that she wants to call the shots regarding any intimacy between Corlys and herself and cites her reasons. Even Daemon can't argue with her. Corlys can't fault her for it and immediately agrees.

100

Lord Corlys Velaryon @driftmarklord.bsky.social · 27/10/2024

When Daemon's plan of Alyssa being betrothed to Corlys is made known, Alyssa fights it. Corlys doesn't exactly blame her as he knows that she sees him as a second father figure. Corlys and Rhaenyra gently point out to Alyssa that the match is with someone she trusts, so she'll be perfectly safe.

100

Lord Corlys Velaryon @driftmarklord.bsky.social · 27/10/2024

He then helps her through the grieving process and they bond over their shared loss. They don't know that Rhaenyra has summoned Daemon back as a result of what's happened. While genuinely concerned for Alyssa, Daemon has a plan to use her to keep Corlys on their side unbeknownst to Corlys or Alyssa.

He tells her that he realizes that she did all she could to save Rhaenys and Meleys. He even commends her for managing to seriously injure Vhagar. He vows to make amends for his wrongdoing. She silently accepts his apology and he consoles her as she breaks down. It hurts him to see her like this.

He finds it difficult to sleep due to the guilt. One night he roams the keep and hears Alyssa out on a terrace. It is clear to him that she is still struggling with her grief. He goes to speak to her and stops her as she goes to leave. He then apologizes for lashing out at her.

100

Lord Corlys Velaryon @driftmarklord.bsky.social · 27/10/2024

He cares little that she is already feeling immense grief and guilt. At least until later on. Days pass and Alyssa never leaves her chambers. He learns that she isn't eating or sleeping and is inconsolable. This leads him to feel guilty for lashing out at her when she returned from the battle.

100

Lord Corlys Velaryon @driftmarklord.bsky.social · 27/10/2024

He backs Alyssa up on her suggestion that another dragonrider go with her. While the matter of who goes with her is debated, Alyssa apparently slips away to follow Rhaenys and keep her safe and alive. When Alyssa return with Rhaenys's body and explains, Corlys lashes out. He blames her for this.

Corly's granddaughter Baela discovers Criston Cole's movements and they move quickly to discuss plans to defend Rook's Rest. Alyssa is the first to speak up when Rhaenys suggests going to face Cole herself. Corlys and the other lords promptly agree with the young Targaryen that this is suicide.

(And now for the moment the branches appear in the story) Version 1: Corlys sees Alyssa become estranged from Daemon over time, despite them all being on Dragonstone together. After Daemon has a fight with Rhaenyra and leaves to recruit an army from Harrenhal in a huff, things kick off.

Lord Corlys Velaryon @driftmarklord.bsky.social · 27/10/2024

He helps plan extra precautions to help keep Alyssa safe. As the years go by, conflict looms and sides are chosen. He chooses to support Rhaenyra, along with Rhaenys and others of the family. The Cargyll twins both side with her as well, much to his relief. He can see that they are loyal to Alyssa.

100

Lord Corlys Velaryon @driftmarklord.bsky.social · 27/10/2024

He watches as Alyssa chooses both Cargyll twins as her sworn protectors. He feels that this move is wise on her part. He hopes that they will keep her safe and remain loyal to her. It is thanks to one of the twins, Ser Erryk, that the culprit behind what befall Alyssa is revealed. Corlys is furious.

100

Lord Corlys Velaryon @driftmarklord.bsky.social · 27/10/2024

This is when he learns that Alyssa has a twin sister, a fact that even Daemon was unaware of. Her twin's name is Prudence and the two share an unexplainable connection, which is how Alyssa's twin even discovered her sister. This confounds him. It's also when Alyssa is granted Kingsguard protection.

He even assures her that justice will be served and Larys will get what he deserves. Things are calm until a couple of years later when dark events befall her. He is among those few she trusts, along with Daemon, Rhaenys, Laenor, Laena, and Rhaenyra. He makes it a point to offer comfort & support.

Lord Corlys Velaryon @driftmarklord.bsky.social · 27/10/2024

To see fear in Alyssa's eyes as she tells Daemon, Rhaenys, and himself what happened worries Corlys. He has never known this girl to show any signs of fear. Her Targaryen fire normally makes her respond with anger. She truly is her father's daughter in that regard. He seeks justice for her.

100

Lord Corlys Velaryon @driftmarklord.bsky.social · 27/10/2024

He knows that Alyssa has a sharp mind and can get whatever she wants if she sets her mind to it, so her tactics here do not surprise him one bit. He rather admires her boldness and cunning. What he doesn't like is how Larys instilled fear in her. That is new for him to see, as Alyssa is fearless.

Lord Corlys Velaryon @driftmarklord.bsky.social · 27/10/2024

He is surprised to learn that the man bribed to hold her hostage, a blacksmith by the name of Hugh, is the one who orchestrates her return to her family. Corlys is impressed when Alyssa goads Daemon into helping to save Hugh's deathly ill daughter in repayment for the man's kindness.

Lord Corlys Velaryon @driftmarklord.bsky.social · 27/10/2024

When Alyssa is kidnapped, Corlys is among those Daemon tells to get help to bring her home. On Corlys, Rhaenys, and the dragons know, including Alyssa's own dragon. Corlys fears for the girl's safety and wants nothing more than to bring her home. He is relieved when she is brought back to them.

100

Lord Corlys Velaryon @driftmarklord.bsky.social · 27/10/2024

This changed years later. He gave up on this. Over the years, Corlys helped Daemon deal with the conflict in the Stepstones, as well as helping to look after Daemon's daughter Alyssa. Alyssa may have been born a bastard but Corlys cares little about that. To him, she is family. He loves her dearly.

Corlys Velaryon is the Lord of the Tides and Master of Driftmark. He is known as the Sea Snake. He married Princess Rhaenys Targaryen and they had children, Laenor and Laena. Both Corlys's children became dragonriders. He did seek justice for Rhaenys being passed over at the Great Council.
