shout-out to "Wetlands in the arid Northern Territory" (Duguid et al. 2005) for a great discussion on classifying wetlands in a moisture-limited landscape Caryapundy Swamp is a Ramsar-listed wetland near Camerons Corner in western NSW #drylands #fluvialgeomorphology #westernLLS

FFS could the #ABCnewsAustralia please stop referring to drylands Australia in these derogatory ways. Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre is a fine piece of geography, wet or dry. Not a wasteland. Geez. Pejorative much?
Screen grab of an irritatingly judgemental and inaccurate title on an otherwise fairly informative ABC news article about floodwaters moving towards Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre "The barren wasteland about to transform into Australia's largest lake".

Yesterday's field trip up the Waipaoa catchment, lots to learn about uplift, lithology and landslide risk, and cyclone-driven sedimentation. 20m aggradation in this river valley! and terraces and views #geomorphology 🧪⚒️ #ANZGG2024 #Aotearoa

today I learned how to fix the CMOS, that was fun also learned more than I ever want to know about a computer tower's navel fluff
photo, computer tower lying on the floor with a side panel removed, I'm bent over peering into it and reaching inside it to do repair

⚒️ 🧪 did a run-through of my talk for the upcoming ANZGG #geomorphology conference. So many fun things to say (but I have to cut 3 minutes ...) #killyourdarlings #fluvialgeomorphology #murraydarlingbasin @anzgeomorph #geoscience
Slide from a conference presentation. Title reads: "Landscape evolution of the Darling River (a long dance of change)". Picture is the alluvial plains: a broad landscape extending off to the flat horizon. Blue sky above, reddish dust on the horizon, landscape is flat grey dusty plains with a light cover of thin green grass, and isolated trees here and there. NSW Australia

2023 for me: regional desktop study of the upper Darling River & its 2022 floods. I've been having fun with some speccy DEMs, like this avulsion of main Darling channel from its prior stream. Here's a #storymap: arcg.is/1j8Xyu @llsnsw #MurrayDarlingBasin #MDB

Hi, geomorphologist and spatial scientist here. Landscapes! Maps! Field work! Deep time! It's the best. Here's a paper doi.org/10.1080/0372... and a sweet landform. 🧪🇦🇺⚒️

I had such a good time talking to Amelia from #AvidResearch podcast. A whole wander through about Australian drylands rivers, the beauties of Central Australia, my first job, and what cracks me up about the fish at Innamincka. Episode comes out this Friday 24 Nov on avidresearch.com.au

This time last year I was hyped and ready to take my #Stardew fit to #PAXAus. This year I'm excited to be joining the Enforcer team for @PAXAus . I have no idea what lies before me, but I've got hair bobbles and I'm not afraid to use them

I am having a very good Thursday. 1) the client has extended the deadline *wipes nervous sweat from brow* #consulting 2) I've discovered how to vectorise a raster so I can edit the false-positives from my map #QGIS #spatialscience

Hi! I'm new here. I'm a fan of drylands rivers, Australian geomorphology, and science generally. Here's a nice creek bank with a mighty coolibah, location Cooper Ck in the Strzelecki Desert, Australia. Root exposure is from the river's natural channel migration.
A steep river bank with a huge coolibah tree leaning out over the water.
