A shitty add-on (SAO) board that says "There is no cloud it's just someone else's computer" in white on a purple circuit board. It is sitting above thee illuminated function touch "keys" on a laptop that say F1, F2 and F3. The screen has some text down the left side, which are BSD kernel modules, listed as output from a 'freebsd-update fetch' command.

DEFCON is as much about the reunion of friends and the sharing of community as anything else, but this was one of the highlights of DEFCON 34 for me - a talk by Cliff Stoll reprising his original ACM talk on 'stalking the wily hacker' on the 40th anniverary of it's genesis. #defcon #dc34

An image grabbed from an imgflip that consists of five screenshots from on of John Oliver's recent part's on ABC's General Hospital. The top two frames show John (as Zee (not Zed)) as he cruelly mocks his co-star with an absurd caricatured accent, the next two shows his co-star (whose name I do not know, as I don't follow General Hospital) slapping him, and the final frame on the bottom is a close shot of John looking ...taken aback. Over it I have lazily used imgflip to type "SOMEHOW TOOK" at the top and "15 TAKES" at the bottom over John's askance stare. Which I thought was funny.

Happy birthday Rodney Matthews. I'm an Eloy fan, so this is one my favorites. #rodneymatthews #eloy www.rodneymatthewsstudios.com/collections/...
Rodney Matthews' "Fall of the Golden Age" which depicts a dark grey creature on the left with mulitple arms and an insectiod chitinous appearance holding a cleaver in one right arm while pointing across a chasm center with his left. It looks angry and accusatory. The sky is dark and gloomy and the black shadow of a distant city is in the background. The center chasm reflects an areas of transition, becoming brighter. On the darker left side, and ominous black flying creature with a snake like tail is present. In the middle is a peak with barren trees on the dark (left) side and full canopys on the light (right) side. To the right on an overhanging grassy cliff sits a man with long flowing blond hair and beard and light flowing robes. Both his cloak and headgear are winged and he holds a staff in his left hand. His right hand is exended and held down, palm open. He appears peaceful and calm. In the background is the lighter shadow of a city with spires and several moons appear in the sky above it. The contrast and opposition of the two sides are very pronounced. This piece was popularized by its use as the cover of the Eloy album 'Planets' on its UK release by Heavy Metal Records.

XTC - Live Boots, 2026 release of a cleaned up 1981 bootleg. #RSD #XTC #thisispop
The cover of XTC’s Live Boots released on vinyl as part of Record Store Day 2026. It has an art pop image of a pair of Doc Marten -like boots, the foreground one in red, the background one in green. There is a blue Type G (BS 1363) plug as is common in the UK apparently plugged into the near side of the red boot, with a blue power cord coming from it and exiting image left. The background is a series of tight black and yellow lines (akin to a warning) sign aligned to the primary diagonal.

Berlin: Night and Day. #photography #berlin #architecture
The Night and Day sculptures on top of the remaining fascade of the main entrance to the demolished Berlin Anhalter Bahnhof. The originals were cast in zinc by Ludwig Brunow and now reside in the German Museum of Technology nearby. Night is a woman in flowing robes and cape, looking away and toward the ground. Day is a man in more open robes looking up. They are offset to the lower left to accentuate their respective gazes, Night on the left looking down into shadow, and Day looking to the bright summer sky which dominates the upper half of the photo. To the right a foreground tree arches over the sculputes on their ornate brickwork seats.

The Sun, eclipsed in totality for 54 minutes by Artemis' position shows subtle details in it's corona while the reflected light off the Earth (albedo 0.39ish, thanks Vangelis) dimly illuminates features on the moon. (image: NASA, details:ALT text) #moon #artemis #astrophotgraphy
NASA ID: art002e009298

art002e009298 (April 6, 2026) – A close-up view from the Orion spacecraft during the Artemis II crew’s lunar flyby on April 6, 2026, captures a total solar eclipse, with only part of the Moon visible in the frame as it fully obscures the Sun. Although the full lunar disk extends beyond the image, the Sun’s faint corona remains visible as a soft halo of light around the Moon’s edge. From this deep-space vantage point, the Moon appeared large enough to sustain nearly 54 minutes of totality, far longer than total solar eclipses typically seen from Earth. This cropped perspective emphasizes the scale of the alignment and reveals subtle structure in the corona during the rare, extended eclipse observed by the crew. The bright silver glint on the left edge of the image is the planet Venus. The round, dark gray feature visible along the Moon’s horizon between the 9 and 10 o’clock positions is Mare Crisium, a feature visible from Earth. We see faint lunar features because light reflected off of Earth provides a source of illumination.

The South Pole–Aitken basin as seen from Artemis yesterday. It's a huge and ancient impact basin - around 2500km across, and estimated to be 4.2 billion years old. (Image: NASA, details ALT text) #moon #artemis #astrophotography

art002e009283 (April 6, 2026) – Captured by the Artemis II crew, the heavily cratered terrain of the eastern edge of the South Pole-Aitken basin is seen with the shadowed terminator – the boundary between lunar day and night – at the top of the image. The South Pole-Aitken basin is the largest and oldest basin on the Moon, providing a glimpse into an ancient geologic history built up over billions of years.

Earth setting over the limb of the moon. (image NASA, details ALT text) #moon #nasa #artemis #astrophotography
NASA ID: art002e009286

art002e009286 (April 6, 2026) – As the Artemis II crew came close to passing behind the Moon and experiencing a planned loss of signal, they captured this image of a crescent Earth setting on the Moon’s limb. The edge of the visible surface of the Moon is called the “lunar limb.” Seen from afar, it almost looks like a circular arc – except when backlit, as in other images captured by the Artemis II crew. In this photo, the dark portion of Earth is experiencing nighttime, while Australia and Oceania are in the daylight. In the foreground, the Ohm crater is visible, with terraced edges and a flat floor interrupted by central peaks. Peaks such as these form in complex craters when the lunar surface is liquified on impact, and the liquefied surface splashes upward during the crater’s formation.

I stuck around a while longer, and my persistence was rewarded when Michael Moorcock (who had not left earlier) decided to leave via the stage door that I was stalking. By this point there were just a couple of people waiting and he walked right over and chatted and signed things. He was lovely.
Close up of the frontpiece of Michael Moorcock's "The Jade Man's Eyes" which the great man himself signed after performing with the rock Band Hawkwind at the Hammersmith Odeon on their Chronicle of the Black Sword tour in 1985, which was themed on his popular Elric books.

I took a copy of Michael Moorcock's "The Jade Man's Eyes" with an introduction "from The Chronicle of the Black Sword" and after the show, several of the band came out and consented to sign it. Moorcock himself was present (and narrated) but I was told he left quietly after the show.
A copy of Michael Moorcock's "The Jade Man's Eyes" printed by Unicorn Fantasy in 1973. It has an illustration of a man (presumably Elric) holding a black sword (presumably Stormbringer) on the front cover that appears to originally have been drawn in pencil. Behind Elric is a large statuesque head and shoulders (presumably of a Jade Man) with dark eye sockets.A (now loose) page of Michael Moorcock's "The Jade Man's Eyes" signed by Huw Lloyd Langton, Danny Thompson and Alan Davey of the band Hawkwind on their "Chronicle of the Black Sword " tour.

At 30 seconds of exposure, it presents as a large white circle, the atmosphere scattering its intense reflected sunlight over many pixels of the sensor.
