I mean there's always the investment profile angle. New capital to earn a return on, then lower O&M overheads you don't have to carry. I think thats an easier sell in a wash than a landslide. Idk, I definitely believe in the death by 1000 cuts theory. You're just not going back on the first 990 now

Eh, I'd say it's "other policy". Take away FGD, SCR, cooling water, MATS, and ash handling and you're pretty much left with half a combined cycle and a bulldozer. We're never going back, but the boiling water part could still be cheap.

Generally I support securitization as a means to closing old fossil infrastructure sooner, but HB 2679 has issues and I won't support it as written. #energysky #greensky azcapitoltimes.com/news/2025/02...

Utility-authored securitization bill is horrible deal for ratepayers and state | Arizona Capitol Times
HB2679 would allow every electric utility in Arizona to create bonds for the debt they have incurred and obligate customers to pay the bonds back.

Not only did the ACC uphold APS' punitive fee on solar, it also ordered APS to increase the fee in its next rate case, which APS is expected to file in 2025. APS has said the fee should be as high as $88 a month PER CUSTOMER. #energysky #solar #arizona

So I’ve been talking on the other app and being educated. I know you can trade anything, I didn’t realize capacity was as liquid as it is. It’s like gold to an LDC, never enough. So yeah tradeable product, do it. But I’ve never owned extra. Lol

Drew Smithee @drewsmithee.bsky.social · 04/12/2024
You can buy a ten day peaking supply. You cannot buy ten day peaking transport. Like that’s the gap here. I can buy gas and sell gas. I cannot buy transport and sell transport. It’s either valuable and I need it, or it’s worthless.

Tens of millions a year? But a bcf of gas at $75/dt wipes that out in a day.

We literally scheduled a bcf on a 600k burn yesterday because, why not? OFO over penalty for days and no downside to leave it on the pipe. Welcome to LDC forecasting

Not particularly. Do you want to buy firm path capacity on a trade in September when IT path is essentially free? We buy the capacity because it’d cost billions in liability to not have it those 15 days.
120
Drew Smithee @drewsmithee.bsky.social · 04/12/2024
Yeah and it’s not really wiggle room, it’s like between a 0.5-2bcf of firm per major metro that does nothing 350 days a year. This shit is gamed all the time and leads to serious rate and reliability issues for free riders.

Drew Smithee @drewsmithee.bsky.social · 04/12/2024
Yeah they tried moving to 15 minute nominations on a pipeline that shall not be named to match power gen noms. Not happening. Gas LDCs can’t do that. What time you taking a shower? 7:30 or 7:45?
010
Drew Smithee @drewsmithee.bsky.social · 04/12/2024
So what’s the question? I think the answer is gas LDCs (local distribution companies) buy a fuckton of firm capacity because of an obligation to serve in the winter. So power plants free ride on this all the fucking time until the temps drop below zero. Then the OFO exact nominations come out.
