All of my life I've dreamed of being up here in the Berkshires when the leaves are changing but my parents always insisted on closing the place up in September because it gets cold. Wind chill was below freezing last night with no heat but this is my morning view for coffee. Indescribably happy rn

Almost moved to tears by the turnout at this rally to defend the Kennedy Center from the truly evil forces that are attempting to take over this country. This has been a body blow to the arts scene in DC, right when we need it most. But we're still standing. Hands off the Kennedy Center!

7/8/94 Stash - This is the 12.5 minutes I play for any professional musician who has never heard the band before. It is the single best example of their tension and release style of jamming.
2/28/03 Tweezer - Their most famous jam vehicle. This jam sounds composed in spots.
12/9/95 You Enjoy Myself - Very complex, composed first half and then straightforward jam. Trey told the NSO that this is "the National Anthem of Phish" when I played them. This version has a section where the band diminuendoed down to niente but then pretended to keep playing. They then "crescendoed" together - complete with Pete Townshend windmills at the climax - without actually playing anything. It then explodes to the end. Never done anything like that before or since. Quintessential Phish.
12/31/99 Split Open and Melt - A complex tune harmonically and the jam section has an extra 8th note each time around the form.
8/13/93 Bathtub Gin - This one is an early example of Phish off the rails while communicating so well that the improv sounds like one person is playing all four instruments in spots.
7/13/94 Slave to the Traffic Light - The jam slowly builds from absolutely nothing to a soaring peak. This one is emotional.
12/31/95 The Squirming Coil - This one always ends with a piano solo and the interplay between piano and guitar here takes my breath away.
7/29/97 Gumbo - A show I attended with Sam Pilafian (almost 30 years ago!?). Just a great groove.
Studio Lonely Trip - A recent ballad that I am obsessed with. This is the only studio cut on this playlist.
