I never played hockey, so I’ve never followed it much. Probably haven’t seen this player or heard the name in 40 years but instantly knew it was Frank Bathe. Crazy what sticks with you.

Going to try something… Son gave up his first hr yesterday. I prefaced this on the other site as it was his 10th birthday. Hitter was 12yo all-star (League is 10-12yo) My son went over to shake his hand and returned to mound to throw strike on next pitch. Proud of how he handled it and battled.

She is 3 for 3 for her cut times. Friend didn’t get hers so there’s a little sadness. She’s in for all 4 strokes and the IM. Pretty fucking cool - especially for someone who was “just a freestyler” 2 years ago.

Big day of competitions for the Davis71 children. Swim meet for her looking for some extra cut times and NEED a friend to make a juniors cut to have a relay there. Championship basketball game overlapping the meet for him. Let’s go get ‘em!

Those Gaudreau kids in the team picture — smiling in the chaos of a loud, bright arena half a world away from home. Toddlers don’t fake comfort like that around strangers. That tells you everything you need to know about those guys. They haven’t just talked about being present - they have been.

46 years ago today - The Miracle on Ice - a bunch of American college kids beat the mighty Russians. Here are my autographs of all 20 players from the US team, both US coaches, and Al Michaels. Herb Brooks had passed before I started writing them. His is a purchase, all others through the mail.

On Feb. 4, Matt Selman, The Simpsons EP, texted Christine Nangle with an idea. Their friend, Dan McQuade, planned to write about their Philly-themed episode. But he passed away before he could do so. Selman and Nangle decided to add him to it — days before it aired www.inquirer.com/sports/dan-m...

15 years ago today, the last living player at Lou Gehrig's "luckiest man" speech passed. Buddy Lewis was only 24 and already had 1100+ hits when he enlisted in WWII. While he lived a long life, his major league career just wasn't the same after his service to our country.

22 years ago today, Master Chief Carl Brashear replied to a letter I sent and signed these for me. The first Black U.S. Navy Master Diver, he overcame racism, a catastrophic injury, and amputation to return to full duty. His life inspired Men of Honor — true perseverance in action.

@adarowski.bsky.social hey Adam - thanks for the RT (whatever it’s called here) this morning! Jack Crimian once told me a writer got his birth year wrong and it stuck. BBREF has it as 1926 family has it as 1927 in obit. Not a big deal. Just wanted to send it over.

I made Saturday’s (?) grid out of guys in my autograph collection (presented in the same order as the grid) The Ted Page auto is in a HOF yearbook from induction weekend 1974. Other autographs in there are another Paige and another Leonard. I LOVE this corner of my collection.

Five years ago today. As the baseball world mourned the passing of Hank Aaron, a surprise arrived in my mailbox. My Don Sutton rookie — thought to be lost after his passing days earlier — returned, signed. It was postmarked January 18, the day he passed. The heaviest card in my collection.

Will this be published somewhere? I have Schmidt’s contact info, would love to get to him (or put you in touch to talk more Dr Buonomo)

I took this photo to a Schmidt signing. He PLOWED through the 100 people ahead of me—moved sooo fast. When I put this in front of him, everything stopped. He lit up talking about his time there, mentioning Dr. Buonomo often. Cool to see what it meant to him. Glad I brought a pic for him to keep!

Such a cool Bob Weir memory from my friend / former boss

120

Drew Davis @drewdavis71.bsky.social · 14/12/2025

Maggie recognized what was happening and ran to get Ellie. In doing so, she knowingly missed her own chance to meet / get a photo with Ledecky. She somehow got through security to bring them together. Ellie got this moment only because of Maggie. Maggie is a fucking badass.

110

Drew Davis @drewdavis71.bsky.social · 14/12/2025

Ellie was lined up for her event when Ledecky appeared. Katie sat quickly with Ellie’s team for a picture while Ellie was swimming. Ellie had no idea Katie was there and that she was missing the photo op (kind of shitty how it happened)…

110

Drew Davis @drewdavis71.bsky.social · 14/12/2025

The best part - and I’ve cried all day recalling it. That girl in the middle is Ellie’s biggest rival in summer swim. They are the same age / swim same events / on rival teams. Maggie has won 3 NBSL championships with Ellie coming in 2nd. Ellie has won 3 with Maggie in 2nd - they battle.

Drew Davis @drewdavis71.bsky.social · 14/12/2025

Fast forward to this weekend.. Ellie is swimming 9 events in the Katie Ledecky Invitational. Today, Katie Ledecky is poolside as Ellie won her backstroke heat. Got a post-race high five from Ledecky.

Drew Davis @drewdavis71.bsky.social · 14/12/2025

Worked perfect until Ellie found out… FURIOUS that she missed it. WHY DID RYAN GET TO MEET HER - THATS MY IDOL!?!?! I can’t fix it. How the hell do I get Ellie to meet her? Ledecky is still training - she doesn’t do the meet and greet shit.

100

Drew Davis @drewdavis71.bsky.social · 14/12/2025

Going to tell the long version… Last year Katie Ledecky appeared at our local Dick’s. We kept it a secret from Ellie because a swim meet had her out of state. I had to stay back with my son for baseball. We got in line at 3am to guarantee we could get her autograph for Ellie…

60 years ago today - Red’s pitcher Jim Maloney faces 40 batters in a no-hitter. 10 walks and a HBP in 10 innings pitched. Ernie Banks goes 0-5. The only man in MLB history to be retired 5 times while his team was no-hit.
