I agree with almost all of this except I doubt that most people on Facebook who don't pay attention to tech culture think about Zuck much if at all. Their calculation is probably more that they're resigned to the crap on Facebook and don't see a good alternative to it.

I expect that's a good metaphor for something in security or trust & safety.

The spiders have figured out that the best place to set up camp is behind the Roomba.

@jessicareedy.bsky.social I don't know if PCHH is the right NPR forum for this, but I want so badly to hear a roundtable discussion about Pluribus that includes a Zen Buddhist monk on the panel.

My customer service call was fine but there are a half dozen unrelated reasons I would not recommend this company to anyone and my "3" is probably going to count against the poor customer service person who works at a crappy company. Ask the question you actually mean to ask.

The "would you recommend us to a friend" question is often not what a company is actually asking. Please stop using this, it's crap.

The policy also says they can give your health data to "other companies and organizations that help us with our business activities" and don't need authorization for that sharing. So much for keeping my health data private.

Once you share your medical information with One Medical/ Amazon, they can keep it forever. I tried asking mine be deleted or restricted, and I was denied. Their policy says they can use your PHI for "data aggregation" and to "improve our services" which is broad enough to include training AI on it.

Fun fact about bleach: it reverts to plain ole salt water and does so more quickly after a year.

When I die I want my ashes scattered. Don't care where. I feel the same about my physical possessions.

THIS, combined with the dire warnings on the bottle about it not touching skin. The way they designed the bottle, the stuff goes everywhere trying to get it into the tiny reservoir opening.

I want to send a single birthday eCard but the usual sites all require a subscription for most of the content. Enough with the subscriptions, let me pay just for what I actually use. Instead I'm not using them at all.

I read articles about a wide range of topics on New York Times -- mostly politics, international news, economics, science & tech. And yet, their new recommendation feature thinks yeast infections is the hook.

Great point. In hindsight I wish I'd asked how they know about the 10% they found through methods other than similarity. Conference ain't over...
