I recently enjoyed The Last Gift series by Allegra Pescatore (fantasy, with a touch of sci fi), and a long time favourite of mine is The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan.

A little story: one time I was watching this movie with my Amazon parrot, Rocco, in the same room. When it got to this scene, and everything started laughing, Rocco started laughing too at just the right moment, and it cracked us up so much 🤣

Trish Rempel @dreamspin.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

The scene where literally everything in the room starts laughing is probably my favourite. Bruce Campbell's acting as he goes from laughing to crying to abject terror to madness is truly something to behold.

Haha I'm sure there's tons, I'm aware there's been quite a few games, but I just never got into them, probably because horror survival games aren't really my jam. So it was kinda fun going into the movie knowing nothing, though I likely missed sooo many easter eggs and references

Trish Rempel @dreamspin.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

I just watched the Resident Evil movie, having never played or seen the games, knowing only vaguely that they're zombie games. Great movie, I screamed a few times at the jump scares, and then spent the rest of the movie covering my mouth 🙊🤣

I agree that it lacked a certain substance, and I feel like with just a bit of better writing or something, it could have been one of those great psychological horrors that you keep thinking about for a long time.

Those years, not # of hours haha 😂

I missed this one, but yeah I put so many hours into WoW around 2005-2006

Finally broke the spell Binding of Isaac had on me long enough to start playing Well Dweller, I've been really enjoying it so far! Kyle and Eric Thompson sure know how to make fire games! 🔥🔥🔥

I was insufferable when I first watched the LOTR trilogy, because I couldn't stop myself from pointing out all the differences from the books, not necessarily as a criticism, but because autism lol

Happy birthday, I hope you have a great day! 🎉

The Scouring of the Shire was so good, it really showed how much the hobbits had grown and come into their own, in the way they could immediately step in as leaders to restore order and rebuild the Shire.

I'm so sorry for your loss 💙

I feel like Bugs Bunny having the ring would be like Tom Bombadil having the ring; he'd use it as part of a gag and then forget about it 🤣

Thanks for the PSA! Where I am, you can get a shingles vaccine at 50+, or 18+ if you're immunocompromised, but I wasn't aware that shingles could show up sooner. I don't remember if I ever got chicken pox either

Trish Rempel @dreamspin.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

Today I got into bulk cooking and made a bunch of chop for my Amazon parrot, Rocco, and a massive Buddha bowl for myself. Somehow it took three hours, but that's what happens when I hyperfocus. The bowl was good though, we'll see what Rocco thinks of the chop tomorrow!

A big container of parrot chop with butternut squash, beets, carrots, bell pepper, broccoli, fennel, quinoa, lentils, kale, radish, serrano pepper, arugula, chickpeas, and italian parsley

A big Buddha bowl with quinoa, lentils, roasted butternut squash, roasted beets, roasted Brussels sprouts, roasted chickpeas, kale, carrots, parsley, radish, fennel, and avocado

Congrats for making it! 😁👏🏻

I haven't felt like I've had much to post lately. Been into Binding of Isaac a lot lately and I just unlocked The Forgotten for the first time, so that was cool. I'm kinda trying to go for the Dead God achievement but I'm intimidated by the tainted characters.

0110

Trish Rempel @dreamspin.bsky.social · 06/09/2026

I haven't been but my hubby has and he concurs. He also has to tell me every time we watch an anime if hes been somewhere being shown 😆

I pronounced it like that when I was younger, but then I found out that Ontarians pronounce it as "Tor-ahn-no", so I started doing that

020

Trish Rempel @dreamspin.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

I just finished a similar Canadian quiz and got Ontario, which is pretty close, I think I got extra points for knowing that you're not supposed to pronounce the second T in Toronto 😆

120

Trish Rempel @dreamspin.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

I was curious what this would come up with, since I'm Canadian; apparently my dialect is closest to someone from California 🤔. Hollywood influence perhaps? mydialect.us/quiz-standar...

Mydialect map of the United States showing that my dialect most closely matches California and least matches New Orleans.

Words that gave me away are firefly, soft drink, "cot" and "caught" being the same, and spigot.

Thanks, this is an awesome reco!

I've only ever played this game up till the point where the group leaves Midgar because that's how long I could play with friends for a weekend before having to return the rental 🤣 One day I should get back into it, would you recommend playing OG first, or going straight to the remakes?

Mjoll and Aela the Huntress are among my favorite characters in Skyrim

Totally agree with you, and some of the pop music played in grocery stores isn't any better, it's like they pick the most piercing and repetitive stuff on purpose. I like Sobeys sensory shopping hours, it feels like you're walking in on the store closing. Music off, lights dim, people whispering.

I've never seen the anime but I loved both seasons of the live action. You can tell how much care and detail they put into everything in this show

The Witcher III (or any of them for that matter) Pokemon, though I don't know if I really want to get into it, it just doesn't seem like my thing?

That's what I've been trying to do with my work too; we're pressured to use it for everything, but I find it can backfire when going into unfamiliar areas of code where you can't as easily validate what it's doing and if it's the best approach

TBF, I've been in software development for over 25 years and I've never really had to do much math, the program does it! But I'd only recommend getting into this field now if you're comfortable with the idea of heavily using AI as part of your toolset, because that's where things are at.

Seriously though, as a kid this quote really made me think and see Saturday morning cartoons, commercials, and "what do you want to be when you grow up" type stuff in a very different light

It took a few nights, and I tried a few different masks before I got one that felt right. It was quick for me, though I know it can take a while for some people, so the important thing is to be patient. Now I feel like it helps me wind down for sleep because it's an associative habit

I've been using a CPAP machine for over 6 months, it's made a huge difference with my sleep quality. Happy to answer any questions!

I just finished a playthrough of Planet of Lana, it was a fun and short puzzle platformer. The dialogue is in an invented language, but you start to get the gist of meanings over time, and start to piece together a broader story as the game progresses.

A screenshot from Planet of Lana. Lana, the main character, a child of about 11, stands on a raised platform of a floating stilt settlement, looking down towards her older sister. In the background is a lake, trees, mountains, and a blue sky with the visible outline of a nearby planet.

I took some time off to renovate my mom's house for my daughter to move into for university, and I'm so beat. Wanted to get her in a month ago, but it's almost done. Then it'll be a rush to get her moved in 😮‍💨. I'm so excited for her, but it hasn't sunk in yet that we'll soon have an empty nest 💜

You can borrow this one but I'll want it back

A pin with Dorothy Zbornak from the golden girls, an elderly white woman with curly red lipstick, round yellow earrings, and a purple sweater. She's holding out her left hand and looking towards you with an expression that says that she's tired of your shit. The background is pink with teal green fronds. In the foreground, 70s stylized lettering says "friend of Dorothy". It's a reference to "friend of Dorothy" as in the Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, look up what it means.

Left unchecked, these memories are not benign, locked within an individual's psyche, but can have an impact on others, either by how these shape the behavior of the individual beneath the waves of conscious thought, or by influencing collective imagination and culture.
