There are numerous issues with this study, but the main figure highlights several: 1. In a 5-point scale, no participant reported being “very conservative” 2. Almost all of the “statistical significance” is attributable to the different means for self-reported “conservatives”
Two charts from the study in the quoted thread showing mean grey matter volume in the “Anterior Cingulate” and “Right Anygdala” with a simple linear regression for each plot. We are meant to conclude from this that there is a statistically significant difference in the mean grey-matter volumes of self-reported “liberals” vs “conservatives”. One a 5-point scale, only options 1-4 were selected. The means for self-reported 1-3 (very liberal through centrist) show no statistically significant difference. Only self-reported group 4 (conservative) are different from the other categories in a way approaching statistical significance.
