Scream! Scream for your lives! @mikearnzen.bsky.social has a thoughtful essay on ritualistic catharsis via silly horror spectacle. "Screamin' in the Rain: The Orchestration of Catharsis in William Castle's 'The Tingler'" @whatsleepsbeneath.bsky.social www.whatsleepsbeneath.com/archive/scre...
On the left, a screenshot of the online thumbnail for the essay "Screamin' in the Rain: The Orchestration of Catharsis in William Castle's 'The Tingler,'" plain text with an abstract black, spikey shadow above it, meant to be one of the "Tinglers" from the film. On the right, an image from the film showing Vincent Price lying on a couch and being attacked by a lobster-like Tingler, which is going for his throat.

"Die, darling! Die and do it quickly!" So excited to see new writing on this bone-chiller from the '50s. @drdantils.bsky.social looks for the expressionist, the gothic, the sadism, and the noir in LES DIABOLIQUES in the new issue of Film-Philosophy #openaccess #horror doi.org/10.3366/film...

"Transnational #Horror Media Now" is the new issue of NRFTS: spooky Oz kids' TV, heavy breathing in MIDSOMMAR, William Castle's THE TINGLER & the fanbase of BATTLE ROYALE. Last two #openaccess! @kte75.bsky.social @jamesrendell.bsky.social @drdantils.bsky.social www.tandfonline.com/toc/rfts20/c...
On the left, a standard cover of the journal New Review of Film & Television Studies, black background with a colorful pixelated design on the left and plain white text. On the right, a still from the film BATTLE ROYALE (2000) in which a preteen Japanese girl in braces, clutching a bloodied doll, smiles in triumph, having won a battle.

As I'm writing in my new book, it's v nice to see that on the upcoming 4k of ROSEMARY'S BABY that the director's name seems to go unmentioned in marketing which instead focuses on Ira Levin and William Castle; going full circle and again being sold as a Castle film as it was in 1968.

Watched new (beautiful) 4k of The Exorcist last night - always struck by how the quieter moments stay with me more than the famous scary stuff. Let's hope the new one can at least try to be interesting like the original...

Genuinely the best restoration of a film I have ever seen. The 3D works perfectly (and often better than modern stuff) and changes the entire experience of the "worst movie ever made"
Blu Ray of Robot Monster (1953) with 3D glasses
