Dimas sought out the syndic (a legal representation charged with assisting in such matters), but slave owners often disregarded such authorities. Dimas still tried, even if his attempts were futile. 042

Two Black men, Juan de Dios and Miguel Ramirez, attempted to downplay the heresy and instead underscored the horrific violence Pascuala had experienced. They tried to protect her. 1386
