Tinglepost 408: Not Pounded By This Flock Camera Because Someone Cut It Down. Huh, Interesting. I Wonder Who Could’ve Done That?
power-handmaiden:
> Dr. Tingle’s writing has an interesting relationship with subtlety. More often than not, when it comes to the main message of any of his stories, he puts up a neon sign pointing to the intended reading. This is especially true for tinglers, and most true of all for the tinglers of the 2020s, which often have a character bluntly state the point outright. This does not mean that tinglers are without depth though- usually there are other ideas and themes hidden beyond the bold, obvious point.

> In this tingler, those choices are brought directly to the attention of the reader. Here, subtlety is the very thing that Dr. Tingle is being as unsubtle as he can be about. It is very blunt about _who_ the problem is. The first thing that really hit me about this story is it uses the actual name of the camera from our layer of the Tingleverse, not some Tingle-fied version like Flork. “Don’t talk to cops” is stated multiple times. The secretive culmination of the story is cheekily hinted at, about as obvious as it can be while still keeping plausible deniability.

> So, the importance of keeping a sense of subtlety- not putting everything out there and upholding privacy against the wishes of the surveillance state- is the obvious point. The more subtle point here is just as meta as the dialogue in this tingler. If even Dr. Tingle, lover of bold direct statements in his art, is championing discretion in this matter, it must really be important.
