The absolute epitome of a visionary. He took biomechanics from a polytunnel in Hertfordshire to the Namibian desert. He crossed disciplinary boundaries far before the rest. 20 years has passed since I was a PhD student in Alan’s lab, but I still feel like I have more to learn from him. A huge loss.
