@cas the environmental argument is less good in Nura's case as more working ports mean fewer old phones get discarded. But I agree that community has to come first.

I've never tried writing code for others to run before so I have no idea what to expect! I have no tricky geometry, just sprites and shaders. But there are about 100,000 entities to deal with

A patterned frieze really ties a room together #screenshotSaturday #bevy #indiedev #solodev #basebuildling If anyone would like to help try the game out for compatibility and performance (and maybe a little building) please let me know in a reply. It is very […] [Original post on hachyderm.io]

Builder screen of the 2d platformer I've been working on, looking at the room of "Grove Keeper Luath". Although the look is abstract we can see the room has a large globe light, a frieze with a plant pattern, metal-framed shelving with bottles and more plants, and various gardening implements hanging on the wall.

Builder can finally round trip room designs, almost reliably. There are tests! Also: procedural ferns and a strange looking hare? thing?

The starting room of a 2d tile-based platform game. It's a dome shape with various types of greenery in an almost symmetrical pattern. A pentagonal shape floats in the centre of the screen. There is a quest hint overlaid on the world and some indicators marking where to go.

This is Usai. Usai knows everything there is to know about the Dwarf Eggplant. Knowing things can be a consolation. #screenshotsaturday #gamedev #indiedev #solodev #bevy

Screenshot of my 2d game. A room with an abstract character, bookcases, tables, and jars(?) in which float specimens of a particular species of flora.

Made a start on in-game building. Since this is pretty much the whole point of the game, I probably shouldn't have left it so long... #bevy #screenshotsaturday #indiedev #solodev #gamedev #basebuilding

Screenshot of my 2d game, at a location captioned "Giant Figure, Tikolgahi District". As well as the usual cave flora and fauna, there is a large pink humanoid figure made of chunky blocks. The figure is reminiscent of a famous British video game character from the eighties, but that is surely a coincidence. Near one of the figure's hands is a teal-coloured cursor reticule thing.

I put in a trippy shader transition effect for when you start the game. But it also triggers whenever you take a screenshot. That's probably a bug #bevy #solodev #gamedev #indiedev #screenshotsaturday #whoops

Screenshot of a 2D platform game. An abstract flower-shaped character in what looks like a room with a table and bookcase, and writing on the wall behind, all made of simple geometric tiles.. The image is distorted as if using a fish-eye lens, and there are trippy green fringes around all the walls.

@glocq so my game has mobs that spawn with chunks and can then move freely. So I need them to stay alive, but I also need them to despawn if they leave chunked space so they can't fall off the world, or come round the end and appear somewhere they shouldn't be able to get to. That logic accounts […]

@glocq I'd love to rip out my chunk code, does fernweh keep track of mobile entities too? As in they get despawned if they move outside the area covered in chunks

The "fauna" of this world are procedurally generated and though initially meant as basically placeholders I'm coming to like the style #ScreenshotSaturday #bevy #gamedev #indiedev #solodev

Several columns of colourful 2d objects, each made of curves with a jellyfish vibe

@theohonohan You are wise in these things. The game I'm writing relies heavily on users creating structures as an artistic process. What's a good introductory read about this area? I'm not sure what the term is. It's not architecture insofar as there's no practical aspect. I think of land […]

We have a puzzle! To keep everything as simple as possible, you currently just type in the solution. But the framework is there. You can gate areas behind puzzles or change the interactions with NPCs (well... PPCs... spoilers?) Can you solve the puzzle? […] [Original post on hachyderm.io]

A room in a stylized 2D game world. There are three orbs which might be of glass. Two contain green flower-like shapes. The third is empty. Above the orbs are three rows of six squares with different patterns. The patterns repeat in the form 123344 - 433451 - 523344.
