Emily Bell in CJR: “If tech platforms—the new power brokers in information—see…authoritarianism as an inevitable price for doing business, then journalism needs to...” Interesting article that asks some hard questions about journalism’s relationship with tech platforms www.cjr.org/tow_center/b...

Are tech companies allies or threats to press freedom?
In 2026, this will be the question that matters most to journalists.

Interesting read on why the legacy media has failed journalism. Reminds me of the relevance of the quote from Jay Rosen “Journalism, the practice, is not “the media.” www.niemanlab.org/2025/12/the-...

Photojournalism Now: Round Up July 2025 I know. It's been a while since there's been a Photojournalism Now: Round Up post. Why? Because life is messy, busy, and I'm learning to not over extend myself (and that's been a big lesson). In fact, learning to say 'no,' to myself and others, has been…

Photojournalism Now: Round Up July 2025
I know. It's been a while since there's been a Photojournalism Now: Round Up post. Why? Because life is messy, busy, and I'm learning to not over extend myself (and that's been a big lesson). In fact, learning to say 'no,' to myself and others, has been super challenging and liberating. For the first time in 7 years, I am not working on my PhD...because I completed it last year and am now a newly minted Doctor of Philosophy!

RIP Sebastião Salgado an extraordinary documentary photographer. I had the enormous privilege of interviewing Salgado in 2013 when his epic book Genesis was released. Today L'Oeil de la Photographie has republished my story as part of their tribute. loeildelaphotographie.com/en/sebastiao...

www.niemanlab.org/2025/05/you-... Quote of the week: “My view towards AI has become ‘if you didn’t take the time to write it, I won’t take the time to read it. It’s just asinine at this point, we’re drowning in absolute meaningless garbage.”

You won’t find these on the shelf. Newspapers print an AI-generated reading list with fake books.
Ah, summer. The perfect time to get lost in a romantasy — or finally pick up Proust or Middlemarch. The Chicago Sun-Times, the city's second-biggest newspaper, recommended some summer books to its re...

AANZCA 2024 wraps after three days of really fascinating discussions around the concept of “pause” at RMIT Melbourne. Thoroughly enjoyed presenting with my colleagues from Monash on the use of GAI in media and communication education.
