That was definitely true. (According to a couple of friends who are civil servants, the way to kill something you didn't want to deal with during that period was to refer it to No. 10 for comment, because it would disappear into a void and no decision would ever be made.)

Also, let's not have any illusions about what they hoped to achieve with these demands. They did not actually want to ban depictions of hugging. They correctly identified furry as a queer community, so they made a demand they know is impossible to comply with.

A while back, I tried to make sense of Starmer's politics. The short answer is he mostly didn't have any - no real strongly-held positions on anything, with one exception, and that was the authoritarianism. That has been quite consistent - he really, really seems to like the boot.

I haven't heard anything on Keith's "ban a new kink every week" thing for a while (_that_ was a weird phase that he went through, wasn't it?) ... assuming it's still on-going, that's something that has the potential to interact very badly with the remaining plans, esp. for minority communities.

Dreamwidth is definitely still a going concern, and seems likely to stay so over the foreseeable future. I used to have a blog via Wordpress dot com (and I suppose technically still do, I never actually deleted it). The interface for both is via a normal web browser, no Unix-ish faffing needed

Obviously we don't know the full facts of the "Liam" and "Holly" story and who knows, maybe the real one is different from how it looks - but, I've personally had the experience of "narcs who start phoning your workplace" and "narcs who try to get into your finances" so 🤷

Most of the stories on Ask A Manager are at the "interesting/mildly diverting" level, but every now and then you read one that goes straight into "yikes" and "O.o" territory. There's some properly messed-up stuff going on out there.
