The internet has been an onslaught of depressing news, but a highlight of my day yesterday was when I started the morning to take care of my animals while starting the new episode without having seen the topic, and getting to hear about your history with chickens while I helped my own ladies.

Photo of a pen with curious chickens in the foreground behind a fence, in the background one chicken runs to approach the photographer. A red chicken coop with a sign labeled "The Chick Inn" is in the background.

I remember watching this episode within a year of losing my father. I'm a grown ass man, similar in age to you, and that episode helped me process some of my grief when I needed it. I remember thanking Lindsay Katai at the time, but thank you for that decision, I really appreciate the impact it had.

Did Dolly Parton ever speak about her inclusion of this song on the album? I've been trying to find contemperaneous interviews from this time and all I can seem to find focuses on the movie, not the record.

Fuck, relistening to her cover of this one now is what made me break down and cry.

I only just started the episode before having to rush to the ER to see my mother. Took a walk around the hospital and did not expect to find this book staring at me on the free book shelf. Let alone to open it and immediately see this page:

Photo of Mortenson with wife and child in Afganistan holding rifles.

Text reads:

This image was used for a family Christmas card, with the caption "Peace on Earth".

Is that an unofficial guard post/checkpoint that the militiaman is in? I'm still learning about the conflict and am trying to understand how they knew it was a militiaman at this spot and why he was there.

@jparish.bsky.social these episodes are always the ones I look forward to most! I hosted a prog rock radio show when I was in college, and your music episodes in particular take me back to that vibe. Thank you!

Katakana still breaks my brain. The most dumb I've ever felt with my Japanese teacher was when I was stuck trying to understand what ハーゲンダッツ was in the Genki 1 reading.

Now I'm curious, which path on StarFox N64 do you think is the most cinematically fulfilling?

Seeing condors fly over Pinnacles is awe inspiring, definitely a worthwhile story. The Channel Island foxes and the history of the degradation due to ranching and then rehabilitation are another story featuring a charismatic mammal. Whatever it, is keep up the great work. Your writing gives me hope.

Appreciating these episodes! Really dig the animal talk, and it'll be a bit of time til we can backpack again so I'm vicariously enjoying the camping talk. You teased a wolf episode, but are there other particular species conservation efforts that also warrant some attention you're interested in?

Internally it was brought up at a lot of companies in 2020, but speaking from experience it was never something actually enforced nor policed. I tend to agree with Michael Hobbes that sometimes this stuff can be kinda annoying, but the right wing make a bigger deal about it than it's ever worth.

So a 3x3 Lego plate is just under a square inch (.9" x .9"). This would be the best way to go about making a base for a minifigure

I'm going to continue reiterating this every time, you don't need to keep enabling Republican framing of the protests as violent threats against law enforcement. ICE is literally detaining women and children in the night and teargassing peaceful protesters. It's not hard to denounce unequivocally.

Posting this so soon after we saw DHS push Senator Padilla to the ground and put handcuffs on him is gross, and I am disappointed that my representation in the House is focusing on these talking points instead of putting up a strong fight against fascism in America.

dragonlake.bsky.social @dragonlake.bsky.social · 12/06/2025

Jimmy, ICE and the LAPD are escalating these protests with violence. Why did you choose to post a clip of an interview where you focus on the protests in such a way to defend against the narrative that they are violent? Why can't you unequivocally denounce the perpetuators?

@usrepjimmypanetta.bsky.social How can you say this, go on MSNBC to even describe the chaos the administration is spreading, then vote for explicit support and gratitude to ICE, all while they terrorize families across the country and instigate and escalate the worst violence in Los Angeles?

A movie no one ever talks about - it might not even be THAT good - but you still love it. 📽 Escape from the Planet of the Apes It's got folks in ape costumes hanging out in SoCal in the 70s and meeting Ricardo Montalbàn. I love it!
