…but none of them stand up to the simple fact that people can’t afford to take time off from work. And until we legally force employers to pay, it seems very silly to keep treating it as just a civic duty that only pays a pittance.

Its insane. Its also a great example of where legal principle faceplants straight into our capitalist reality. Jury service is treated as a civic duty rather than a government job, and there are a number of very serious legal reasons and detailed excuses about why it can’t be paid normally…

At this point the only audience left are the ignorant, the apathetic, and the malicious. Which is a hell of a lot of people, but that’s NOT a growing audience. Theres no future of brand goodwill, it’s no longer universal in appeal.

It already has, in a sense. JK is doing the delusional “you’ll watch it anyway” thing to her critics which is…just not true? She’s so hardline toxic that nobody who has been turned off to it is going to be turned back on. The brand has permanently lost people, it’s coasting on pop culture inertia.

Aww, maybe we can fix that sometime 😭 Once I realized that the movie was kind of a dark comedy, I came to appreciate the wackier elements and the creature effects. I also learned that the director, Joe Dante, made Small Soldiers, which WAS a childhood favorite of mine.

Catching a portion of an airing of Gremlins as a very small child. The puppets really creeped me out and I had bad dreams for YEARS that featured them in some way. All that cured it was finally renting and watching the whole movie when I was a bit older.

I’ve definitely seen it on the left as a way to reject the mere concept of intersectionality itself. It’s just class reductionists and “dark woke” and accusations of “wokescolding” on the same redefinition treadmill. Outside the left, it sounds like assholes finding a new word for “SJW”.
