A headcannon that stabs your feels?
Maybe Char initially intends to deceive and use Garma for his own ends, but he actually ends up falling for him during their time in military school. (Babygirl may be a mess, but he's still human.) Of course, he can't handle it, because Garma is a Zabi, so he ghosts him after graduation. This breaks Garma's heart & leads to his engagement with Icelina. Char is (unjustifiably) hurt when he finds out that he's been "replaced," especially when he overhears that Garma is willing to forsake the Zabi name for love. It was never just about the "misfortune of [Garma's] birth."
A headcannon that mends the previous one?
If Garma were to learn Char's actual identity (perhaps in an AU… perhaps in one that I might be writing once "Romanticide" is complete) he is also willing to forsake the Zabi name & spend his life making up for the harms his family has inflicted on Char. This might actually fix Char.
