I can't stop thinking how wrong the tech bros have understood creativity and creators. Or even just having hobbies. #erliart

It always makes me really happy when people compliment my handwriting bc I was actually super embarrassed about having messy handwriting in freshman year of HS so I worked hard on developing a style I thought looked pretty 🥺

Imo it's the framing that matters. Who is the sexy character being sexy for? Lara was never characterized as someone who looked the way she did for male approval, and that in itself is empowering.

ShiroOoOo ࣪ ִֶָ☾. @dragonbarrows.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

And again, I'm absolutely not saying that Lara's face in rise and shadow is ugly. I just think it's unwoke to say that she's TOO conventionally attractive and needs to be changed. It's kind of like when men hate on women for wearing makeup or having cosmetic procedures and call them "fake".

ShiroOoOo ࣪ ִֶָ☾. @dragonbarrows.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Of course, it's gross when men expect women- real or fictional- to be conventionally attractive and sexy all the time, but it isn't helpful to take a female character that had those traits and change her under the notion that she's offensive or unrealistic. Women should just be allowed to exist.

ShiroOoOo ࣪ ִֶָ☾. @dragonbarrows.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

The vibe they've given more recent iterations of Lara feels very "not like other girls" flavored. It's also really counterproductive that they made her personality less confident and abrasive at the same time.

ShiroOoOo ࣪ ִֶָ☾. @dragonbarrows.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Ofc all of this is subtext- idt they've actually said these things about why the changes were made. It gives the idea that a smart, capable, outdoorsy woman like Lara who isn't afraid to get dirty wouldn't also like to be sexy and feminine.

ShiroOoOo ࣪ ִֶָ☾. @dragonbarrows.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

There are countless male protagonists with strong jaws and huge muscles doing cool shit. It's pretty clear that they wanted to approach Lara from what they thought was a more "progressive" angle, but deciding a woman is too sexy and needs to cover up isn't woke.

ShiroOoOo ࣪ ִֶָ☾. @dragonbarrows.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Lara was never a realistic character. That's the fucking point. Ofc, her original look was due in part to men wanting to look at a sexy woman with big boobs and shorts, but that doesn't take away from her being a smart, strong, capable woman in a video from the 90s.

ShiroOoOo ࣪ ִֶָ☾. @dragonbarrows.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Lara had a consistent appearance pretty much up until rise in 2016 where they drastically changed her face. Though TR 2013 is where they changed the way she dresses and her over all vibe. Weirdos try to make it about her being "ugly" or "looking like a man" but that's gross AND misses the point.

ShiroOoOo ࣪ ִֶָ☾. @dragonbarrows.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

looking at stuff about tomb raider and the changes to Lara is so difficult bc there are so many conservatives/transphobes being icky about it. I do think that the "newer" Lara appearances from rise and shadow are bad in that they don't look like her, but not bc they're "ugly"

120

ShiroOoOo ࣪ ִֶָ☾. @dragonbarrows.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

I'm like cautiously optimistic they're letting her wear shorts again and her face looks closer to her original vibe though I kind of wish theyd let her have her fuller lips too
