More bugs! I mounted the giant longhorn with goldenrod which I may end up keeping. And I have a cicada and more beetles pinned and drying. Can't seem to get the rhino beetle fully rehydrated though, so it may have to be pinned as is. Again, all bugs were found already deceased.

This is never getting finished. I returned to it after a long break and after laying down some color, my fear of losing detail came true. I tested the colors first and thought the black for the crows and gray trees wouldn't be too dark but i was wrong. I was so excited for this piece and I ruined it

I regrettably have no pictures because I was busy. But today I saw a melanistic mourning dove! It was a solid chocolate color. Adding it to my list of shinies seen in the wild! So far, I have also seen a black bobcat and coyote, and a melanistic whitetail that was also a dark brown like the dove.

Glue didn't work but my jewelry cutters thankfully did. Had 3 screws like that. It was a pain, but at last I am done. It's so nice having a working keyboard again! I put a new charging jack in too. Old one was loose and began getting super hot. I was worried about a fire or something overheating.

Replacing my keyboard, as it's slowly been failing and using the on-screen keyboard gets old fast. But the very first thing to remove besides the battery is the hard drive, and the screwhead stripped with my tiniest screw driver. Hope the super glue trick works, or I'm SoL. I hate repairing laptops.

New month, new hobby. Trying flower pressing to decorate pinned bugs, using mostly flowers I grew myself. I found some shadow boxes for displaying them, too. This whole project has been an experiment that needs loads of improvement, but I'm eager to keep working at it!

A Banded Sphinx Moth (Eumorpha fasciatus) with Four-o-clock flowers, which this moth species visits nightly during the summers here. This is my first pinned specimen. Although its wing was already slightly smudged when found, I sadly damaged it more in handling. Despite the flaws, however, I like it. It shall live in my room.

Eastern Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa virginica) and an absolute giant of a ground beetle (I think; can't find an ID) are currently drying to be displayed later. Like with the moth, these were found already deceased.

Goldenrod visitors! We have a Slender Twig Ant facing off with a Thynnid Wasp; a Red and Black Mason Wasp; and a shiny blue elephant mosquito! These giant mosquitoes feed solely on nectar as adults, while their larvae are predators whose prey includes other mosquito larvae, making them beneficial.

Titmice having to nearly unhinge their jaws to grab and fly off with peanuts that are half their body size will always be funny to me. But when I offer shelled peanuts to make it easier, they still take the whole ones. As small as they are, they can chip through those shells no problem!

Last year, I watched this young Eastern Cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus) grow up from being able to fit in the palm of my hand to nearly adult size. After a couple months, it vanished, either eaten by a predator or found its own territory. Was cool to see though #mammals #wildlife #nature #animals

The rabbit when I first saw it. It often took refuge in an overgrown section of the yard. Here it was very small. I could have held it in one hand.

Stretched out across the ground, relaxed and unbothered. Like a particular adult rabbit I've been seeing for the past 2 or 3 years, this one quickly grew accustomed to my presence and was comfortable hanging out in close proximity, while still knowing to run and hide from real threats like hawks and dogs.
