Last night, Stars, Broken Social Scene + Metric at the Met Philly. Big fan of all of these bands + they put on a really big show, with members of each of band participating in the other band's set. When Jimmy + Emily of Metric joined BSS's set there were 14 musicians on stage, sometimes more is more

She also pressed a limited number of copies of a "bootleg" album, only available at her shows

Last night, Caroline Rose at the Ukie Club. It was one of her secret DIY shows, only advertised through her social media, with the venues kept secret until a week before the show, a hot sweaty affair for her rabid fans

Last night, St. Vincent at Wolf Trap's Filene Center, in Vienna, Virginia. Regrettably it was the last of her Orchestra Tour shows that I was seeing

Spoon, the headlining co-headliner, they did play a little longer, coming back out for a short, respectably timed encore. Always a pleasure seeing this magnificient band live

Last night, The Beths at The Fillmore, the problem with these co-headlining tours is I always want both bands to play a little longer, especially if they're my favorite bands, and it's just not possible

The Fiery Furnaces (siblings Mathew and Eleanor Friedberger) performing their album "Blueberry Boat" in it's entirety. I'm a big fan of strange and I'm a sucker for her voice

I'm at the Ethical Society on Rittenhouse Square, I've never been here to see a show, nor have I been to Rittenhouse Square, they have very elegant dogs there, not like the mutts in my neighborhood

@wxpnfm.bsky.social Hey guys, saw your concert picks for the upcoming week, Black Country, New Road cancelled that Johnny Brendas show, as well as their whole North American tour right after "Ants From Up There" was released because their singer quit

Andy Hull, at The Queen. Being a dumbass, I decided to save a few bucks and buy the ticket at the box office since I was going to be at The Queen the day tickets went on sale. It was six seats shy of sold out, so this isn't too bad and aisle can't be beat

St. Vincent, at The Met, I was a little farther back, but I could see Annie's band and most of the Philly Pops, and that's what it's all about. Oh, it was a great show but of course I'm kind of partial. Next Wolf Trap!

The opening show for St Vincent's Orchestra tour, at Heinz Hall, Pittsburgh. Got a relatively decent seat, well worth the journey. Philly next!

The closer was an artist I had not been familar with, a shoegaze outfit from Wales, Just Mustard. They've released some really good albums the past few years and I enjoyed their show more than I thought I was going to. Guess that's why the show was sold out

Last night, Miss Grit brought her multimedia experience to Johnny Brendas in support of her new album, the very good "Under My Umbrella". Been a fan of hers since I saw her open for Metric a few years back. It doesn't hurt that she reminds me of St. Vincent

Lucinda Williams(and teleprompter) at the Transfer and NO barrier! I'm not sure if she should be touring or at least she should take a seat. She sounded great and the band (including former Black Crowes guitarist Marc Ford) is first rate but I have the feeling that one small misstep.....

"An Evening With" The Joy Formidable, at the Ardmore Music Hall, just as they finished their first song the power went out, to the whole block it turned out. They decided to improvise until the power came back and did a few songs totally acoustic(and why it pays to be up front)

Last night, Courtney Barnett at the Fillmore, with the stellar Stella Mozgawa on drums, Bones Sloane on bass and special guest Kurt Vile. She's touring in support of the latest album, the really good "Creature of Habit"

Last night, Dry Cleaning at the Transfer, touring in support of their latest album, the really good "Secret Love", killer guitar and disturbed vocals, a great combination, kept the groove going

Body Sound (Whitney Johnson, Lia Kohl, Macie Stewart) at the Side Chapel of the 1st Unitarian Church. I am only familiar with Macie from her band Finom and being in Jeff Tweedy's backing band. Here she is exploring her wildy experimental side

Last night, The New Pornographers at the Keswick Theatre, touring in support of their new album, the really good "The Former Site Of". Synth Pop at it's finest, with impeccable vocals

Last night, or earlier today, coz the show didn't end til past midnight, Heavenly, at JohnnyBrendas. They were an early 90's band but this was their first ever performance in Philly. They also just released their first album in 30 years, the really good "Highway to Heavenly"

An Evening with Cat Power, at the Transfer, in truth it was more like Cat Power without an opener. She performed all of her album "The Greatest", took a break, then finished off the "evening" with a fine selection of her other masterpieces. She is definitely an original

Well, a little later than last year, but the Crocuses have started to bloom, maybe this horrible Winter is finally going to be over

I, and quite a few others, braved the cold to see the effervescent Nellie Mckay, at the Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center(whew!) She was like a breath of Spring air(which could be a long time coming)

Neko Case, at the Queen, in Wilmington, De. Love seeing great artists close to home. She was excellent, and her band top notch, and because she could see me, and I was behaving myself(well, mostly because she could see me) no photos. Just imagine her and her band in the stage setup shot

My first show of the New Year, the mysterious and magical Cate Le Bon, at the Transfer. The album she released last year, "Micelangelo Dying", was one of my favorites of the year, and her band, as always, was stellar

Shows I saw this year, I visited 7 venues I had never been to before; Argilla Brewing Co., Ting Pavilion, Concert Under the Stars, The Rusty Nail, Kelly's Logan House, Wiggins Park, and City Winery. I also went to a House Show with tickets as opposed to a House Show with a drunken brawl

Built to Spill, at the Transfer, probably my last show of the year, it's nice to go out on a high note(and there were a lot of them) an almost 2 your long guitar extravaganza

Last night, Speedy Ortiz at Johnny Brendas, bringing the heat on a frozen night. If Built To Spill hadn't announced a surprise tour for the end of the year, I would have begun and ended 2025 seeing Speedy

Last night, The Aimee Mann &Ted Leo Christmas Show with Nellie Mckay,Paul F. Tompkins & Josh Gonderman at the City Winery. Songs, skits and general foolishness to get one in the Holiday Spirit

The Mynabirds, aka Laura Burhenn, at a house show(there's a first time for everything) playing songs from her just released album "It's Ok To Go Backwards If You Keep Moving Forward", her first album in almost 10 years

Wednesday, bringing their psychotic blend of Country, Psychdelica, and Rock to the Transfer. They have a new album out, the excellent "Bleed" and I believe the dolls and stuffed animals represent the setting for a malignant nursery. Unhinged goodness

Dr Sardonicus @dr-sardonicus.bsky.social · 11/11/2025
Daffo, at the Transfer, just got back from touring Europe, sure sounded good for a band who could be suffering jet lag. They're doing all this touring to promote their first album,"Where the Earth Bends", it's really good + inexpensive, only 10 bucks at the merch table, what a deal

Dr Sardonicus @dr-sardonicus.bsky.social · 08/11/2025
Grace Vonderkuhn, Delaware's finest, at the Arden Gild Hall, also promoting a new album, her "Into the Morning", that came out at the end of August. A more savage approach, the drummer ended up drumming the kick drum's mic off of the riser trying to keep up with her

Sug Daniels, at the Arden Gild Hall, doing a mini tour promoting her first album, the just released yesterday "I Believe In You", a diverse collection of songs that displays her many talents well

Flock of Dimes, at JohnnyBrendas, playing their latest album "The Life You Save" in it's entirety, always nice when a band does that, I'm sure to hear my favorite song from it. They finished up with 5 of their best songs from previous albums

Icelandic Enchantment with Of Monsters and Men, at The Met, touring in support of their latest album "All is Love and Pain in the Mouse Parade"; they closed the show with my fave song from it, the epic "Fruit Bat"
