Small things #1 There is something so intensely wonderful about watching the rain gather into perfect droplets on the leaves of Alchemilla mollis. Perfect hydration stations for small insects, looking for a Sunday drink. Perhaps rainy Sundays aren’t so bad after all!

Hope everyone is coping OK in the heatwave. We’re expecting 33C here later this week. I’ve deployed a passive watering system in the border to help newly planted plants. It consists of two water-filled buckets with a small hole in the base to let the water soak into the soil gradually. 😊
Two buckets placed among garden plants that include yellow and purple roses, yellow rudbeckia, liatris and purple nepeta. Two holed water-filled buckets in a border with garden plants including purple liatris, purple and yellow roses, yellow rudbeckia, purple nepeta and a yellow bird bath.

Sometimes the best things happen when we stray from our usual path. I found myself with a few hours to spare in London this week, + wandered along the Regent's Canal towpath. When we leave our usual paths, we gain different perspectives In this case, London as I have never seen it before

A hot day in London Where trees were providing the much needed air conditioning Loving the pleached trees which have created a cafe in a hostile concrete square... The more our climate changes, the more important trees are, providing cool shade on impossibly hot days Perfect for a cheeky coffee

I was delighted to get to see the new Queen Elizabeth II garden in Regent's Park, which is holding up well in the warm weather. What a fabulous space for all the peoples of London.

I was lucky enough to stumble across the beef and onion plant this week, Toona sinensis 'Flamingo' In summary: “A Victorian traveller’s tree, eaten for breakfast in China, symbolising fathers, and turning flamingo-pink each spring.”

Enkianthus campanulatus Thank you to Charles Maries who collected this plant on behalf of Veitch Nurseries, & to the Portuguese Jesuit missionary & naturalist João de Louriero in who found it in 1790 Enkianthus comes from the Greek words enkyos which means pregnant and anthos- the word for flower.

What a day yesterday! I was able to visit a project scheduled to take place over the next 400 years. A regenerative agriculture project, which was awesome (even in the mist and the rain)! Thank you to the team at Doddington Hall and Gardens for an excellent afternoon.
