I haven't tackled Adam Sisman's biography of Le Carre yet, it's a hefty tome and I need to do some stretches first, but this slimmer volume of the sexy bits he couldn't tell until the subject had died is fascinating.

I've got All Creatures Great and Small on this week's movie music show, though curiously, nothing from the popular vet show. I've lions, sharks, gorillas, bears, buffalo and a large white whale! Oh yeah - and me. Tune in today (Saturday) at 4pm here: southernsound.org.uk

Although I'm a fan of his work (although he's made some clunkers) I knew very little about Eastwood's private life, which was, shall we say, passionate. Shawn Levy gives us a dispassionate glimpse beyond the lens, while other books have either been hatchet-jobs or hagiographies.

Fascinating account of the 80s Britcom scene. Apparently one producer said that people north of Watford didn't know when to laugh unless they heard a laugh track. We laugh when we find it funny. Packed with detail & anecdotes. Who knew tv sitcom was so cutthroat?

What have they done to Cape Fear? The original is a tight, tense storyline (the 1962 version is the best). Now we've got unnecessary padding and ridiculous plot points to blow it up to multiple episodes. Leave things alone!

No, this is NOT the location of all those book experts, crypto currency punters, phishers, smishers, fakers, takers and romancers. It's actually a picturesque glen. But wouldn't it be great if all those scammers were confined somewhere? We could cut off internet access and give us all peace.

On yesterday's walk, we also wandered into what seemed like the set for a jungle adventure, or Jurassic Park. There was no ravenous T Rex but there was a strange creature peering from the undergrowth.

Guy Pearce seems to be drawn to bleak westerns ( The Proposition and Brimstone). Devil in the Dust is another. A supernatural western that doesn't make a lot of sense (a child has the power to kill anything she touches, and yet if anyone touches her face, arms, holds her they live).

As a fan of westerns, I caught SANCTIFIED last night on Amazon Prime. It's a thoroughly decent entry in the genre, not treading any new ground but that doesn't matter. It's a theme I love, a bad man finding redemption. The North Dakota scenery was impressive, as was the score by Will Van De Commert.
