Another shot from Sedona, AZ. These rock formations surround the town. This shot was taken while strolling down the sidewalk trying to decide which restaurant to eat lunch at.

These distinctive red rocks are primarily composed of Schnebly Hill Sandstone.

The vibrant red color is a result of iron oxides within the sandstone, essentially the rocks "rusting" over time.

Sedona's unique geology is shaped by a combination of volcanism, erosion, and fault lines like the Verde and Oak Creek faults.

The Schnebly Hill Formation, specifically, is a prominent geological feature in the area.

The smaller garter snake try’s to keep from being dragged under by the larger (black & yellow) California King snake by wrapping itself around the sprinkler in my backyard. Moments later he disappeared under the patio.

The Pantheon in Rome

The romans invented concrete. They used it to build the amazing dome of the Pantheon.

Pic of the Pantheon from outside. Unlike most columns of the day that were made from multiple stacked pieces each Pantheon column was carved from a single piece of rock (granite). The columns were transported from the quarries in Egypt transported to the Nile River, floated downriver on barges, and then shipped across the Mediterranean to Rome. Single piece columns were very rare and statement of power and wealth.

However, the columns are technically slightly too short for the structure. Its thought that they arrived too short and instead of waiting for another set to be made and shipped they added material above and below to make up for the resulting gap. In other words - they made it work!

The top of the dome is open. I remember looking a photos of the inside of the dome in my art history class in college and thinking it looks like a painting. I was able to go there, see it and take these shots. It looks like this in real life. Impressive use of concrete.

Studio mic shootout.

We record the singer singing a short section of the song through multiple studio mics at once and listen to which mic sounds best on her voice for the given song. By mounting them together like this we can record the same performance (the same take) through the various mics (instead of recording one at a time) to assure the difference we hear is due to the different sound of each mic and not due to slight changes in the way she sung. The difference is usually very subtle. These are all tube mics (they use a vacuum tube circuit inside the mic).

This wooden flume carries snow-melt water from the High Sierras to various towns in the foothills. This one is in Pollock Pines California which is a region in Northern California sometimes referred to as Gold Country - as this the area where gold was discovered in 1848. Many amusement parks have log rides that are modeled after real-life flumes like this on. I took this shot in Spring after dusting of snow.
