I felt extremely connected to Laszlo, for many reasons, and I think the film’s power is in its ability to appeal to a lot of different people. It succeeds in universality while maintaining a clarity of vision.

Pretty sure these were the first DVDs I ever bought on my own, from a Criterion sale. I couldn’t afford a Blu-Ray player so I watched them on my laptop. High and Low still one of my all-time favorites.

Going to use this to shout out an underrated favorite from this year, “Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night.” About four high school girls with different talents who start a band using a Miku-esque virtual avatar. Very 2024 but with a hopeful message - it’s never too late to be creative!
