We took delivery three years ago yesterday. Pros: It is amazingly agile and you feel directly connected to the road as a driver. It's super quiet and smooth. It's cheap to run. It fast charges like Usain Bolt. It's Helen of troy beautiful. Cons: Parts can take two months to arrive from Germany.

Anyone know an organization that takes blood donations for research? I used to donate every 56 days and it's been a year since my last donation. My blood has some "interesting" clotting properties that make it no longer suitable for transfusions but I'm feeling in need of a good bloodletting.

Found myself waiting for the lab to draw blood when one of those republican push polls texted me. I don't usually respond to these, but one question was "What would you say to Donald Trump?" I went with "Fuck you, I hope your death is painful, humiliating, and soon." I'm happy with that response.

This winter, fuel oil prices are going to make millions resort to heating with propane patio or salamander heaters or gas stoves when they can't heat their house. Some will die from CO poisoning. Some will die when they light their own house on fire. Buy a Carbon Monoxide detector.

Today marks the one-year anniversary of a rather substantial pulmonary embolism. Turns out I can remain mostly functional (for six weeks) with 80% of my lungs blocked by blood clots. I didn't end up in the hospital until the clots got into my legs and they finally took me seriously.

Just want to throw out here that according to GasBuddy the fuel cost increase for US consumers for gas and diesel alone is $110 billion dollars so far. That's money out of the pocket of everyone who drives a gas or diesel vehicle and it hits those who are less well off the hardest.

I find myself thinking about the people in northern MN that still heat with oil. Heating through the winter is going to be $2000 to $3000 more expensive than last year for many. That's on top of the extra costs of groceries and gas. People are going to have to choose between eating and keeping warm.

If you live within Minnesota Power's service territory now is the time to replace your oil-fired furnace or boiler with a cold climate heat pump. Heating oil is already over $5/gallon and could easily go up another $3 or more by January. It's over $1000 for a full fill of a 265 gallon tank today.

It occurs to me that we've recently passed the point where 1% of the population of Russia as a whole has been killed or incapacitated by the invasion of Ukraine. That represents 2% of the entire male population and up to 5% of the male population in the 20-to-40-year age range.

The September 5th, 2026, update from Ukraine on russian losses in their failed invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine estimates that 1,495,050 russian personnel have been "liquidated." The entire population of russia is 146,000,000.

Navigating EV charging in Iceland was... Interesting to say the least. I hoped for plug in, tap a card and go, but that resulted in an error message in Icelandic that my translator app couldn't deal with. Had to download yet another charging app. Still better than Ice.

It looks like the entire level 2 public EV charging infrastructure in Iceland is Bring Your Own Cable. It sucks that the US doesn't even have a standard for this.

Had an amazing three species dinner tonight in Reykjavik. None of which are likely in the top five you are thinking of. Also went with the deadly vitamin K packed asparagus/broccoli side. Fifteen hours until the gates open at Echolalia. It's 4000 steps from parking to Vidistadatun Sculpture Park.

I requested an ID.3 for a rental, they gave me a Y. It's amazingly unintuitive when there isn't a Tesla bro in the passenger seat to explain that it's awesome the mirror adjustments are three menus deep while navigating to it. I remain unimpressed by the kiddie car accelerator pedal.

At $0.327 per gallon, that's the equivalent of a gas car burning almost 1100 gallons of gas. At 12,000 miles per year this $354 is more than twice what a gas car getting 25 MPG would pay per year in gas taxes. Why has Minnesota gone from encouraging EVs to punishing them? @governorwalz.mn.gov

A chunk of my registration renewal notice for my EV with a surcharge of $354. That's equivalent to the taxes for almost 1100 gallons of gas.
