I will cut adrift. I will sit on pavements and drink coffee. I will dream. I will take my mind out of its iron cage and let it swim - this fine October. Virginia Woolf

The series reprise in the summer of 1979 helped me survive 13 weeks back at home with the parental units and a suburban life that was now alien to me after freshman year in the Big City. Oh. And don’t touch the figs.

Why did two gender-bending celebrities die within 24 hours of each other? I think the deaths of Dolly Parton and Tim Curry reminds us that gender is a spectrum, and that we we are here to live our authentic selves and practice kindness to one another.

I first heard Dolly's “I Will Always Love You” covered by Linda Ronstadt on her 1975 album Prisoner in Disguise, that included the handwritten lyrics from Dolly and the other songwriters on the album; on her lyrics, on the lower right, Dolly adds “thank you Linda"

— some of the dialogue is a tad too much 2026, and it would have been better if it was period adjusted — the visuals are stunning — Calypso reminded me of Ursula Andress in Dr. No — Circe is terrifying — in the Cyclops encounter, they skipped over a plot detail that addresses Odysseus’ faults

After all the harm Hunter Biden has been through, self-inflicted and inflicted by others, having had so much of himself literally stripped publicly, I wonder if there’s something liberating about it for him, after choosing the path of recovery instead of self-destruction. No one can hurt him now.

The Bicentennial in 1976 was celebrated with books like this, an almanac that chronicled key events in the nation’s history from year to year; it coincided with a presidential election year that POTUS Ford lost because he pardoned Nixon, a denied accountability that had repercussions decades later.

“I was going to make espresso” That line got a big laugh in 1974 because espresso was a new thing in the country at the time and was considered rather hoity-toity and elitist #YoungFrankenstein #TCMParty

Unfortunately I can’t get excited for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence because of how the event is being abused and hijacked. Nothing like the Bicentennial in 1976: a very different national spirit then, and a celebration that included this groovy logo.
