Last year the Ford government put $12M of public money into ads for its Ring of Fire plans, on social feeds, billboards and movie screens, FOI records obtained by The Trillium show. There's no highway to the region yet. Four ministries, $77M on ads in one year, and counting.

The Ford government's own KPMG review found every $1 put into supportive housing returns $1.60 to $2, mostly in avoided hospital and ER visits. That was 2022. The ministry spent years 'analyzing' it (The Trillium). 36,000 people wait; under 1,000 a year get in (AMHO).

Highway 69's last 68 km were supposed to be four lanes by 2017, promised after a series of deadly crashes (CBC). Tuesday the Ford government announced construction on four of six sections by end of 2027, with no completion date and no price tag attached. Still two lanes.

The Ford government has cut people on student visas and work permits off social assistance (CBC). What didn't change: Ontario Works still pays a single person $733 a month, the same as eight years ago. A legal clinic lawyer calls it 'impossible to get by' (PressProgress).

Back to school in Ontario. The Ford government is touting 35 new and expanded schools, 18,300 spaces. The FAO says the province needs 172,187 spaces by 2033-34, plus $6.5B in repairs to the schools kids already sit in (Globe and Mail). A tenth of the job, sold as all of it.

50% US tariffs landed on $28B of Canadian goods Saturday. Ontario's NDP, Liberals and Greens asked Ford to bring MPPs back to pass emergency relief for tariff-hit workers, Global News reported. He said no. 'Gutter politics.' The House he sent home in June returns October 27.

The Ford government is selling public land on Lake Muskoka for a resort, zoning order included, so Gravenhurst's planning rules won't apply. The project's lead paid $1,000 to the PCs to dine with Ford while working to get the land (The Trillium). He says that was personal.

Ontario hospitals had $2 billion on hand for day-to-day bills in 2020. Last year they ended at negative $280 million, and some are borrowing to cover payroll and supplies (OCHU/CUPE). The Ford government is raising hospital funding 3.3% this year. Costs are rising over 6%.

Call logs from Ford's personal phone, the week his government opened Greenbelt land to developers. The privacy commissioner ordered them released. Courts upheld it. The Ford government rewrote the FOI law, retroactively, and denied the request under its own rule (Global News).

A 500-pound rebar cage fell 10 metres and missed Ontario Line workers by a metre. Contractors struck a live 115,000-volt line. Over two dozen serious incidents in six months of 2024-25, per leaked Metrolinx reports (The Trillium). The CEO says near-misses come with building big.

"Look into my expenses and find out that I have zero expenses," Ford told reporters in July. Global News did. Disclosures show $11,709.85 billed to taxpayers to send Ford, his labour minister and two staffers to a 2025 LiUNA conference at a Disney resort in Orlando.

Bail in Ontario now comes with a price tag. As of Monday, the Ford government requires a cash deposit from anyone granted bail. The CCLA and Criminal Lawyers' Association are in court: those who can't pay are more likely to be left in jail, presumed innocent (CBC).

First the Ford government cut the fees developers pay for roads and sewers. AMO put the hole at $5.1B. Now Ontario and Ottawa are spending $1B on towns that charge developers nothing, and Ford is urging deeper cuts (CBC). The roads still get built. You pay for them now.

In December 2023, Ford's PC party sent someone to Jamaica to watch then-Liberal leader Bonnie Crombie on vacation, The Trillium reports. The party stands by it: opposition research. Nearly half its income that year was a taxpayer subsidy. Ford's response: "It's politics."

The Ford government announced $7M for residential school survivors on Aug 5. It comes out of the burial search fund, cut from about $32M to $20M, The Trillium reported. At the Mohawk Institute, searchers have covered 2.75% of the grounds. Survivors' gatherings are off.

The Court of Appeal ruled Friday the Ford government can rip out 19 km of bike lanes on Bloor, Yonge and University. Ford posted "Common sense wins." The ministry's own documents, released in that case, say removal may not ease congestion and could mean more collisions (CBC).

The Ontario Line was pitched at $10.9 billion. Metrolinx now says at least $34 billion, more than triple, and still climbing, $29B in June, $34B this week (CBC). One subway line under the Ford government, no ceiling on the overruns, and taxpayers cover every jump.

More than a million Ontario households need subsidized housing. The Ford government's programs reach about 300,000. In 2024-25, 729,355 households needed help and got none, the FAO found. It projects the number helped will drop by 2027-28 as need climbs.

The Ford government spent a record $111.9M on advertising in 2024-25, more than any Ontario government ever (Auditor General). She found 38% wouldn't have cleared the old partisan-ad rules, and said the campaigns were meant to make the PCs look good, not to inform you.

Ontario spends less on a university student than any other province: $10,481, against a national average of $17,424 (OCUFA). The Ford government's 6% increase in February doesn't change that ranking. It lifted the tuition freeze too. Students make up the difference.

In 2019 the Ford government pegged the Ontario Place rebuild at up to $424M. The auditor general puts the public bill at $2.2B, including parking owed to Therme, the Austrian spa firm with a 95-year lease on the site. She found the process wasn't fair, transparent or accountable.

The Ford government broke ground this week on an $82M emergency department in Scarborough. That hospital is $36M in the hole and got nothing toward it. Hospitals in deficit must file cutback plans instead: 1,300 jobs gone in a year, CUPE says. Bigger ER, fewer people in it.

Metrolinx, the LCBO and Legal Aid Ontario are among eight agencies the Ford government just told to find savings (CP). Legal aid has been here before: a 30% cut in 2019, and Ford telling people who couldn't get a lawyer to call his office. Same agency, same play.

Scarborough Southwest has had no MPP since February. Today is the last day the law lets Ford wait before calling the byelection, CBC reports. Six months, no voice at Queen's Park. Not that there was much to miss: the House sat 30 days this year and is off until Oct 27.

Four major education unions' talks are frozen before wages or class sizes even came up. The Ford government wants school staffing rules set from Queen's Park, not local boards. Unions say they offered to keep bargaining; the answer was no. Contracts end with summer (Trillium).

The Ford government's 2026 budget put a record $965M into the Ontario Autism Program. Of about 88,000 kids registered, roughly 21,000 have funding for actual therapy. The other 67,000 are still waiting. More money than ever, and the line only got longer (CP24).

Toronto's Eglinton Crosstown was pegged at $4.6B and promised for 2020. It opened at over $13B after 15 years of torn-up storefronts along Eglinton. Opposition and city councillors want a public inquiry into what happened. Ford says he won't 'waste time' on one (CBC).

$733 a month. That's Ontario Works for a single adult, unchanged since Ford took office in 2018. This July his government gave ODSP an inflation bump and OW nothing. Eighth straight year frozen. The Income Security Advocacy Centre says prices are up 23% since, so the cheque buys nearly $140 less.

Ford bought a $28.9M jet in April and sold it back 12 days later when the backlash hit. His own documents show taxpayers still paid nearly $200,000 for nothing. Same play as the Greenbelt: take 7,400 protected acres, get caught by the Auditor General, hand it back. Reversals aren't refunds.
