Did that ‘my nine games’ except I couldn’t just stop at one — the first is the overall games that have been key at different moments (details in the alt!), the second is the nine racing games that shaped me as well.

My Nine Games, in order:
• Gran Turismo - car culture and tuning, and the reason I live in Japan
• Jet Set Radio - vibes, style, and also the reason I live in Japan
• Street Fighter Alpha 3 - where I learned to really play fighting games
• NCAA 06 - Ten-man offline Dynasty in college. Say no more.
• Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - learning to love action RPGs
• Mass Effect 2: Choice, gameplay. What a game.
• Hades: Where roguelikes clicked.
• Yakuza 0: Where this series finally grabbed me
• Civilization VI: Could also be V, but VI on Switch is a certified Time Eraser

Nine racing games:
• Gran Turismo: The granddaddy of them all
• Ridge Racer Type 4: Viiiiiiiiiibes
• Formula 1 97/Championship Edition: shocking level of realism and detail from a licensed game, as I started following F1 for real
• Sega Rally 2: 10 Year Championship is one of the apexes of single player racing
• Test Drive: Le Mans: Fantastic racer centered around the famous race, including letting you do a full 24 with saves at pit stops.
• Project Gotham Racing 2: Online GOAT. Microsoft needs to bring this one back untouched.
• MotoGP 2 (Xbox): From 2002, so had both the 4-stroke and 2-stroke bikes. Amazing feel.
• F1 2020: Apex of the Codies F1 series.
• Gran Turismo 7: Peak or console racing. Un-fuck-withable.

The logo change is one thing, but the other graphic/design changes Yamato made a few years ago to their vehicles allowed them to buy bog-standard white trucks and vans, and remains a high water mark in advanced financial-driven cowardice.

Been waiting for Pro Jank Footy to arrive, and I have not been disappointed. Come for the old-school two-button simple sports arcade fun, stay for the absolute Aussie fever dream it becomes once the janks stack up

So I finally figured out where this game was, and yeah, it's maybe the second-best behind 82-0 in terms of feel. Real good. What the summary won't say is that the semi-final against Germany went to 9-8 on penalties. Wowzers.
