doublejon.bsky.social @doublejon.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Live Model Drawing 48.1 Observations: - Start with lighter shading to darker shading. Going dark right away makes it harder to correct after. - When shading, go like 2 to 3 strokes for light, 4 for medium and trust in the process of being able to reach that value 011

doublejon.bsky.social @doublejon.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Live Model Drawing 47.2 I've noticed it's too easy to get too dark with 2B, so I've been trying out softer grades of charcoal towards the end of the session 010

doublejon.bsky.social @doublejon.bsky.social · 28/07/2026Live Model Drawing 45.1 Sadly, there won't be any live model drawing sessions until Sept 14th, so I might continue with photo reference drawing. Besides that, I got a really good sitting angle today! I'm still trying to get better at smooth gradients and value control. 011

doublejon.bsky.social @doublejon.bsky.social · 14/07/2026Live Model Drawing 44.2 I've decided on using B conte for rough sketches and 2B conte for shading. It's still good to shade mid tones with B because it can be easy to get too dark with 2B. 020
doublejon.bsky.social @doublejon.bsky.social · 30/06/2026Live Model Drawing 42.2 The laying down poses were pretty tough and I was also at a side angle today. It was a good challenge. Not sure why, but I couldn't get his face right until the 2nd last pose! 020
doublejon.bsky.social @doublejon.bsky.social · 23/06/2026Live Model Drawing 41.2 I think the difference between good and great rendering is how accurate and clean you can get during roughs. I struggled with the same proportion problem today as last week. It's easier to gauge proportions when you're sitting on a lower seat while drawing live models. 010
doublejon.bsky.social @doublejon.bsky.social · 16/06/2026Live Model Drawing 40.2 Today, I had fun drawing a familiar model. Usually, I sit in front, but recently I've been drawing from a side angle with a different elevation to change things up. This made for a different drawing experience because it changed the way I saw the figure's proportions 020
doublejon.bsky.social @doublejon.bsky.social · 09/06/2026Live Model Drawing 39.2 2B is good for shading, but B is better for light sketching and lighter values to convey reflected light. Also, one thing I noted near the end was to make a more clear separation of values between light, medium and dark values because a clear contrast looks better. 030

doublejon.bsky.social @doublejon.bsky.social · 26/05/2026Live Model Drawing 37.2 I'm still not fully used to using the conte stick, but getting better at it. I'm getting a bit better at rendering reflected light 010

doublejon.bsky.social @doublejon.bsky.social · 12/05/2026Live Model Drawing 36.2 I was much more successful this week with the conte stick. The ability to use values consistently makes it better than the smudge sticks that I'd used a lot before. I found that practicing light, medium, and heavy values on a sphere helped me get used to using it 010
doublejon.bsky.social @doublejon.bsky.social · 05/05/2026Live Model Drawing 35.2 Finally getting the hang of the conte stick. I messed up a few times mixing the tools, but finally got it right in the end. Figuring out how the tools interact with the page to create hard and soft edges are key 010
doublejon.bsky.social @doublejon.bsky.social · 28/04/2026Live Model Drawing 34.1 I've been shading with the conte pencil instead of using the blending tool for the last few sessions, it definitely takes some getting used to 010
