That's a question I've been looking at, and what I think I'll go with is that few make it to that size, and of the ones that do, even fewer meet the conditions needed to metamorphose. The rarity of that would leave adult forms something akin to dragons, kinda scary to come across but rare.

#oc #creature Another sketch set, this time of some pets.

A page of sketches of different pet animals in the story of Wind in the Grass. Two are fiery showbirds glittering gold like the fire they spit, however these two show imperfect patches of wildtype colors. Another is a furry theraspid-inspired beast the size of a larger dog that behaves like a cat. This one was rescued from a dogfighting ring. Finally there is a whip-scorpion looking animal that inflates its abdomen to float. It is shown being held on a leash like a balloon.

Did some more concept work for my project.

A concept art page with a few drawings of a massive sauropod inspired caterpillar beast. One depicts it with caterpillar skin texture, another the same drawing but depicting the creature covered in long shaggy hair. The last depicts a version of the beast that is rotting away, leaving trails of disease and surrounded by flies. This version is labelled "The Tower of Rot".

Concept drawings of a fantasy creature based on beetles and ceratopsians. It's thorax is modelled after the crest and horns of a ceratopsian, and the elytra when raised acts as a second horned shield echoing the first. The elytra can slam shut like a jaw in self protection. The sketches display four colorways.

Drawing of a supermassive wild boar that resembles ice-age megafauna. It has massive twisting tusks, massive shaggy hair across the shoulders and a flat armored headplate with bony spurs, and across its body are scars and embedded weaponry from previous attempts to hunt it.

Concept sketches of a large insect-like beast called the Minotaur. It resembles a quadrupedal fly with raptorial forelimbs, and has two very large horns growing from its thorax/head. It stands almost twice the height of a person. Displayed next to it is a much smaller worker animal resembling a termite, the implication being that the minotaur is the solder for this colony animal species. A sketch of a hive in the pattern of a labyrinth is also featured.

Another wip to nudge me along The last year or two, I always find myself paralyzed at this step when doing art just for myself, not for work or projects, and end up giving up. I'm really hoping to be able to push through that this time though, I can't stay stuck there forever.

Finally got to play Hylics 2, loved it just as much as the first extremely early WIP of an artpiece I've wanted to do for years after finishing the first game, being adopted to my sequel experience. (Will I finish it? Hopefully! Am I posting the wip just in case I don't? Yes)

Found a drawing of my character Iamba while I prep artwork to reupload to this account~

A blue alien swimming alongside a group of earth fish. She is softly shaped, taking inspiration from the insulating fats of sealions and other aquatic mammals. Her fur gradates from more purple at the somewhat shark-like tail to blue at the head and limbs, with dark blue spotting along the back. She has a fin with an orange tip on her back, four limbs resembling a humanoid shape, a pale blue underbelly going up to the chin, an orange mane, and orange eyes with dark scleras ringed in pale blue eyelids. The tail also has an orange tip. Two sets of gills are on either side of her neck just above the shoulders. From the sides of her head are two dark-tipped sensory fans used to feel water currents and other information.
Iamba's mouth is shaped similar to a cat's mouth, and hides jaws featuring a mix of shark + sea-lion teeth, as well as a second pharyngeal jaw.

A beasty I painted a while back to push my rendering skills outside my normal comfort zone. Hard struggled but was worth the effort!

A digital painting of a hippo chimera. It has the head, teeth, skin and body shape of a hippo but squat, but with three sets of legs and a long tapering tail that ends in a set of pink bulbous lumps with a yellow stinger at the end.
The eyes of the chimera are bright lime green with slitted irises, and the feet end in padded toes with large yellow claws. Long whiskers come from the chimera's lips and brow. The front four legs share the same shoulder area, with the front pair being too short to reach the ground normally, most likely being used to manipulate or hold down prey. The middle feet resemble bear paws more than those of a hippo, and the back and front legs bifurcate into just two clawed toes each.

Been a while since I did a freshly painted beast

An animal hybrid with the body and legs of a camel, green head of a salmon, pink and red scales across the legs like a salmon, black feathers with purple/blue sheens across the neck and back, and two feathered humps on the back. The camel tail has long black hair, and along the long neck is a bright red airsack similar to that of the christmas frigate bird.

Mmmm bomberman jetters fanart

A sketchy drawing of a character from the Bomberman Jetters videogame, Dark Force Bomber. The drawing interprets the character as a blend of biomechanics.

Most of the base body and upper limbs are mechanical, but the lower limbs and most of the tail are biological, with the feet and hands ending in claws. The skin is stretched over mechanical sections, with tension between the sections visible around some joints. The line between mech and flesh is unclear.

From the fore-arms are visible wing-like feathers, and from the head of Dark Force Bomber are massive angle wings that flare out to either side. A single horn protrudes from the head above the electronic visor that acts as the eyes, and tubing connects the head to the torso. In the bomber's left hand is a lit cartoon round bomb, and behind them are lines signalling a sense of radiance.

Sketchy of some pals

Colored sketches of two fantasy animals.

One is a dark-pink quadruped with purple/orange stripes, a long tail and neck, and a long blunted beak. It's eyes are cartoonishly white and bulbous, and antler-like growths grow from behind its brows, the shoulders, and tip of the tail. It's arms are odd, having very high elbows and blunt feet. Overall the animal has a goofy look.

The second animal is a copper-colored bipedal animal, with feathering along the chest, back of head, and the tailfeathers being reminiscent of a male peacocks. The back legs resemble those of a cat or dog, ending in paws, but the front arms are pulled high and tucked back almost as if a bird folding its wings. However there are no flight feathers, just skin stretched between digits that end in claws. The head has canid resemblance, however from the mouth protrudes a few sets of narrow pointed fangs. Proportions of the animal are comical, however the face indicates a potentially more aggressive lifestyle.

Been learning 3D modelling and using my oc's for practice. It's been a big uphill but progress is being made!

A very basic low-poly 3D model made in blender. It is of a character in a green tunic, Sonsvara, running at an angle. She has been posed by hand in blender without armature rigging, and the face is almost entirely painted instead of modeled.

A 3D model of a character named Teras made in blender. It is also low-poly however there is more detail than Sonsvara's model, having sculpted facial features and complex hair. The joints still twist into themselves but the model is posed in a crouch using an actual armature rigging as opposed to manual posing.

A 3D blender model of the character L'jen. They are the most complex model of the three, having the most polygons, features multiple instances of cloth physics on the dress and hijab. Some parts of the model are broken such as the shoulders and dress but the progress is still visible.

Space Helena in the flesh (chitin?)

A drawing of an alien bug character. She is bipedal, but modeled after both an earwig and a feathered angel, being chitinous across most of her body but feathered across the chest, elbows, and ‘arms’ of the wing, and with long brown hair. Her body is caramel with gradients to a light yellow towards the ends of limbs and the front of her face. Her ears are actually long curved antennae, and she has four brown eyes with glowing yellow pupils. She has two arms where a person would, as well as an additional smaller pair of limbs between her arms which are more insect-like.

Her wings are almost glowing yellow. Her tail thorax acts like a tail and ends in large pincers. Above her head around her antennae is a halo, denoting her unusual power. The background behind her is a blue field covered with stars, as Helena is a space-faring being.

Some concept sketches I did for a creature in my personal project Wind in the Grass! Sluggish on the ground, it prefers to ambush from tree trunks and surprise with an extendable neck.

Three sketches of a fantasy creature. It is sloped so its backhalf lays against the ground with short back legs. The front legs are stood on its wrists, with long curved claws curled backwards. From the awkward slumped shoulders emerges a long neck with ruffled feathery layers leading to a narrow, birdlike head and beak. The neck can extend its length in a surprise move. The tail is large and excessively feathered with an almost silky texture, and from the base several display feathers rise like those of a peacock. The animal is naked across the body, but the limbs have scaling and the head and tail are feathered in red. The neck ruffles are tipped in yellow, the face is white, and the tip of the beak is red. Overall the animal has a clown-like visage.
