I’ve always understood it to still be onomatopoeia. We don’t just create words to show, in writing, what sound or sense we mean, but, also in speech, instead of making the actual sounds in conversation. We do both, tho. We tsk at/about things, but, say tsk tsk directly to someone, when speaking, no?
