"Jacheongbi, rich with bright red troughs of water and cyan forestry. It’s almost better seeing it all from so high up. It’s packed to the brim with life, critters flooding the land at every corner." - "Wires and Chains" by @dorianmcgrath.bsky.social #PBB_BTS #KPopDemonHunters #ZoeyKPDH #ConceptArt

An environment concept art painting of the planet Jacheongbi from "Wires and Chains" by DorianMcGrath.

Zoey is standing under the canopy of a giant, cyan-colored forest, overlooking a waterfall and a mountain in the distance. The water from the lake/waterfall is a vibrant red color, reflecting the light seeping through the open vista. Various foliage, rocks, and giant trees surround her.

An alternate version of the previous image with different colors (more reds/oranges/greens; an afternoon tone).

"'I’m sorry,' Mira whispers, still shaking from it all. And Rumi, no stranger to the hauntings of surviving in this galaxy, can only say, 'Come here.' Mira does." - "Wires and Chains" by @dorianmcgrath.bsky.social #PBB_BTS #KPopDemonHunters #RuMira

Artwork of a scene from "Wires and Chains" by DorianMcGrath.

In the middle of the night, in their tent and in front of a campfire, Rumi holds Mira in her arms after the latter had a nightmare. The cybernetic patterns on Rumi's face glow blue, with the blue lights lining upwards like wires. Mira falls asleep in Rumi's arms.

"The warmth of her tight embrace, and the steady, fierce beating of her heart let her ease into the darkness again."

"Satisfied that she doesn’t, Rumi presses her lips on the underside of her cheek, close to the corner of her mouth. She lingers there for a moment, and Zoey feels her eyes drift shut." - "Wires and Chains" by @dorianmcgrath.bsky.social #PBB_BTS #KPopDemonHunters #ZoeRumi #ZoRumi

Artwork of a scene from "Wires and Chains" by DorianMcGrath.

In the dark of the night, in front of a campfire, Rumi leans down and gives Zoey a kiss on her cheek.

"She leans down carefully, giving Zoey room to move away. Zoey wouldn’t dare at this point, but remains frozen. Satisfied that she doesn’t, Rumi presses her lips on the underside of her cheek, close to the corner of her mouth. She lingers there for a moment, and Zoey feels her eyes drift shut.

A simple gesture, a simple moment that makes Zoey almost pass out from gay panic.

Yet, there’s something underlying in it. She sees it when Rumi pulls away. She has that sad look in her eyes again, and she doesn’t hide it this time.

Rumi whispers, 'We’ll be back.'

Then she’s walking away, leaving Zoey to deal with the weight of it all alone. "

"The one holding the pistol is carrying a less-than-pleased expression and a raised, expectant brow… Many cyborgs Zoey has come across aren’t as advanced with facial features as this one. And she’s hot." - "Wires and Chains" by @dorianmcgrath.bsky.social #PBB_BTS #KPopDemonHunters #MiraKPDH

Artwork of Mira from "Wires and Chains" by DorianMcGrath.

Mira's long hair is hot pink, tied up by two high ponytails. She has a hack paint job that’s all over her bolted-up, metallic arms, chest, and legs. Paint strokes and splashes of a skin color litter her body, interrupted by scrapes and overall wear of whatever adventure she's found herself in. Most of the paint left intact is on her face, but some of the paint is chipping off in the top right corner of her head.

All over her body are patterned engravings carved by hand, starting at her shoulders and descending. These engravings consist of various shapes (butterflies on her shoulders, hearts on the backs of her hands, swirls running up and down her arms, etc.).

Mira is wearing a black crop top with blue stripes running down vertically, a yellow skirt, a golden heart-shaped necklace, spiky golden earrings (one resting on the top of her ear and one dangling off the other ear), 2 golden dot piercings under her right eye, a bracelet, and a large transparent jacket exposing her metallic body.

Concept art of Mira's hoverboard from "Wires and Chains" by DorianMcGrath.

Her board is made of gold-and-silver colors (primarily gold) and carries a group of ~6 heavy-ish thrusters. The base holds a spiky head and wings on the sides. The sail, colored off-white with hints of pink, is in a shark fin shape with a huge gukwa knot pattern in the front. The mast is adorned with several golden half-heart shapes.

"She must be the one that took the fall. Surprisingly her clothes aren’t torn, just a little wrinkled. If Zoey were literally in any other situation than this, she’d probably flirt with them in a bar." - "Wires and Chains" by @dorianmcgrath.bsky.social #PBB_BTS #KPopDemonHunters #RumiKPDH

Artwork of Rumi from "Wires and Chains" by DorianMcGrath.

Rumi is a human with cybernetic modifications that glow faintly in blue. The modifications look like wires, starting underneath somewhere under her bright purple hair that’s wrapped tight in a long braid in the shape of a mohawk.

She's wearing a ruffled yellow jacket (tucked into her black shorts) with black, white, cyan, and red embroidery on her left shoulder; a white crop-top that ends with a fishnet style covering her midriff; a heavy belt with a pouch on her right and a chain on her left; and various jewelry, including two necklaces (one with a heart shape and one with a circle shape), a lot of earrings, and one earring that doubles as a remote transmission device.

Concept art of Rumi's hoverboard from "Wires and Chains" by DorianMcGrath.

Her board is made of gold-and-silver colors and carries a group of 6 small thrusters. The base holds sets of spikes at the sides. The sail, colored off-white with hints of purple, blue, and pink, is in a rectangle shape with several gukwa patterns adorning it. It's held up by a golden mast with a large circular middle showing an elegant pattern. The bottom of the mast is also decorated with three clumps of strings, similar to those found on her norigae from the film.

"Glowing bright in the distance, proof that eons away there were places yet to discover. As the wind flows freely in her hair, the draft pulling at her skin, [Zoey] feels that longing for discovery again." - "Wires and Chains" by @dorianmcgrath.bsky.social #PBB_BTS #KPopDemonHunters #ZoeyKPDH

A full-color illustration of Zoey from "Wires and Chains" by DorianMcGrath.

She is on a hoverboard flight in the afternoon. She is smiling proudly, her hand resting on the handle of her hoverboard and the sun glowing almost blindingly behind her, seeping through the sail of her board. The Honmoon wind surrounds her.

Zoey is wearing a cropped green shirt with a floral pattern, a white long-sleeved undershirt, yellow bandana, wide black pants, a yellow belt/dangling overalls, 2 necklaces (gold and silver), and various metallic rings and bracelets.

Concept art of Zoey's base hoverboard from "Wires and Chains" by DorianMcGrath.

Her board is made of gold-and-silver colors and consists of large thrusters and a handle with a tiny turtle embellishment. The sail is in the shape of a large sea turtle, colored off-white with hunts of blue and pink, and held up by a golden mast. The shell of the turtle has a large gukwa knot pattern on it.

Concept art of Zoey's superpowered hoverboard from "Wires and Chains" by DorianMcGrath.

This board is much larger than her base hoverboard. It consists of a huge, transformed, fortified sail in a spiky star shape and hexagonal turtle shell patterns on it. A gukwa pattern adorns the middle spike, and faint "wires" of additional spikes surround the sail. Instead of only 3 thrusters, there are now 10 thrusters, including a thruster in the shape of a turtle mouth blasting power out of its mouth. The handle still has a tiny turtle embellishment.

Artist’s Preview

A cropped WIP artwork of Mira, Rumi, and Zoey falling down, with Mira and Zoey grabbing onto Rumi. Rumi has cybernetic “wires” running down a few parts of her face, Mira has a robotic body, and Zoey’s Zoey.

Writer’s Preview

"It is," Mira says, just as wistfully. Zoey peers her head toward her direction and smirks when she's not even looking at the board at all.
Just Rumi. Watching the obvious glee on her face as if the universe itself is wrapped around her.
Well, maybe it is to Mira. There's something about the way Mira looks at Rumi when she doesn't think anyone is watching. A softened, yet pained stare that always somehow meshes beautifully together.
Maybe, Zoey thinks, that's just how she loves. At a distance, and unspoken. The pain from an artificial heart grows, but it's never known. Perhaps not even to Mira herself.
